New South Wales 184-3 (Hughes 72no, Jaques 50) beat
Western Australia 179 (Robinson 78, Cockley 4-39) by seven wickets
Ford Ranger Cup, North Sydney Oval
New South Wales marked their first appearance since their Champions League Twenty20 success with a crushing seven-wicket win over Western Australia in the Ford Ranger Cup.
Half-centuries from Phillip Hughes (72 not out) and Phil Jaques (50) eased them to victory after four wickets from Burt Cockley helped NSW bowl Western Australia out for 179.
Wes Robinson top scored with 78 for the Warriors and Luke Ronchi made 28 but their innings only lasted 44.1 overs, Mitchell Starc and Stephen Smith taking a pair of wickets apiece.
Hughes then hit seven fours and a six with Jaques making a successful return from back surgery, the pair of them putting on 74 for the second wicket after the early dismissal of David Warner for one.
Brad Haddin made his return after surgery to reset a fractured finger and scored 27 before he was the third and final wicket to fall, Smith unbeaten on 31 alongside Hughes.
