
Left-arm fast bowler Ashish Nehra has been awarded a central contract by the Indian board (BCCI) after making a successful return to international cricket in 2009.
He made his comeback in the West Indies after almost four years out of the side having impressed with the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League while the BCCI has also awarded contracts, split into four grades, to a number of rising stars, including Saurashtra batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane.
The nine players awarded the highest-paid Grade A contracts has remained the same but while all-rounder Irfan Pathan has dropped from Grade B to C, Praveen Kumar has been promoted from Group C to B.
Other players to have been 'demoted' are batsman Subramaniam Badrinath, wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik and leg-spinner Piyush Chawla while those losing contracts from last season are Manpreet Gony and Chetanya Nanda.
Grade A contracts: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan
Grade B contracts: Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, RP Singh
Grade C contracts: Subramaniam Badrinath, Dinesh Karthik, Wasim Jaffer, Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth
Grade D contracts: Ravi Ashwin, Piyush Chawla, Shikhar Dhawan, Ashok Dinda, Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Dhawal Kulkarni, Ravi Jadeja, Abhishek Nayar, Parthiv Patel, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha, Manoj Tiwary, Sudeep Tyagi, Robin Uthappa, Murali Vijay
