Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt has rejected Younus Khan's offer of resigning as captain in the wake of match-fixing allegations against his side and Younus is set to continue as captain until the 2011 World Cup.
Younus offered to step down last week as a protest against claims made that his side had deliberately underperformed during the ICC Champions Trophy, where they reached the semi-finals, a performance that the PCB described as 'more than satisfactory' in its own debrief.
Butt has been reported as saying that he will not accept Younus' resignation and that if fit, the batsman will lead the side to the 2011 World Cup in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.
"He will continue as captain until the World Cup in 2011, if he stays fit," Butt told a press conference.
"With so many [good] performances this year do you think he should be changed? He reacted after so many things happened and I would have done the same had I been in his place," Butt said of Younus' resignation.
News agencies then reported that Younus withdrew his resignation although he will meet with Butt in the next few days.
Pakistan are next in action when they play New Zealand in three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals in the United Arab Emirates in November.
