Indian captain and wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as the Cricket World® Player Of The Week after he played two fine innings to help his side take the lead in their One-Day International series against Australia.
With his side 1-0 down following a four-run defeat in Vadodara, Dhoni inspired his side to success in Nagpur in the second match when he scored his first century against an established side for almost four years, his 124 in 107 balls propelling his side to a score of 354 for seven.
They would then go on to bowl Australia out for 255, and after Dhoni hit nine fours and three sixes he took a catch and pulled off a stumping to round off a successful day's work.
In the third match in Delhi, he came to the crease after his side had been set 230 to win with India stuttering on 53 for three but he proceeded to add 148 with Yuvraj Singh for the fourth wicket, his contribution being an unbeaten 71 in 95 balls as he guided his side past the winning post with ten balls to spare.
He had earlier matched his record of a catch and a stumping from the opening match when Australia were restricted to 229 for five.
Other contenders for the weekly award were Mike Hussey, Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Ashraful.
