LV County Championship Division One

Day two at The Rose Bowl and the champions Durham made their way to 435 for nine against Hampshire. Will Smith led the way with 150, backed up by 56 from Ian Blackwell as the away side continued well as they bid to finish with an unbeaten season.

Yorkshire rallied on day one against Sussex to close on 274 for seven at Hove. They were in trouble at 96 for four but half-centuries from Adam Lyth (50) and Andrew Gale (60) got them out of danger. Piyush Chawla picked up four wickets for the hosts.

Worcestershire handed a debut to 17-year-old wicket-keeper Ben Cox but he didn't have much to do on day one against Somerset at Taunton as the Pears closed on 408 for four. Daryl Mitchell stroked an unbeaten 232 and David Wheeldon an unbeaten 87 to frustrate Somerset, for whom Charl Willoughby and David Stiff both picked up two wickets.

Kent look set to clinch the title after they bowled Leicestershire out for 158 and by day two, had advanced to 205 for four. Simon Cook returned five for 44 and Amjad Khan four for 46 before  half-centuries for Geraint Jones (89) and Martin van Jaarsveld (63 not out) put them in the clear.

Northamptonshire closed day two having been bowled out for 299 by Essex., who were three without loss in reply. Andrew Hall made 85 as Danish Kaneria picked up another five-wicket haul.

Four men passed fifty as Glamorgan were making good progress against Gloucestershire on day one. Openers Gareth Rees (88) and Mark Cosgrove (80) started their innings well and after a wobble, Michael Powell hit 84 and James Allenby 79 to get them to stumps on 380 for seven.

Warwickshire kept their title hopes alive with a crushing nine-wicket win over Surrey. After the Brown Caps were limited to 200 for nine, 79 not out from Jonathan Trott and 93 not out from Ian Bell not only ensured victory in 35 overs, but also that Lancsahire are now out of contention.
