Leicestershire have begun the rebuilding process for the 2010 season by signing Will Jefferson, handing Claude Henderson a new contract and confirming that Boeta Dippenaar will not be returning to the club.

Meanwhile, AJ Harris, Wayne White and JIgar Naik have signed contract extensions and they have expressed an interest in signing out-of-contract fast bowler Matthew Hoggard and according to reports, Andrew McDonald has been lined up as their overseas player.

Opening batsman Jefferson left Nottinghamshire having moved to the Midlands from Essex in 2007 and he has signed a one-year deal at Grace Road.

"I think Tim [Boon] can help take Will's game forward. He is the type of player who will bat well at Grace Road," Chief Executive David Smith told Leicestershire's website (www.leicestershireccc.co.uk).

“I think he is up for the challenge. He likes what we are trying to do here in producing young, England qualified players. I was keen to get a senior opener and Will has still got his best cricketing years ahead of him."

Veteran left-arm spinner Henderson has now received British citizenship and no longer requires registration as a Kolpak player, paving the way for a new deal for the player who helped Leicestershire win their most recent silverware, the Twenty20 Cup in 2004 and 2006.

Smith added: “We are pleased that Claude will be returning next season, his experience will be crucial.

“We are looking for four bowlers to get 40 wickets next year. If they can do that, then we will be in a good position."

Dippenaar, however, will remain in South Africa, where he and his wife are expecting their first child early next year, and he will not be returning to Leicestershire for a third season.

“We fully understand Boeta's decision. We are aware that he and his wife wanted to have their first child at home," Smith said.

“We thank Boeta for his contribution to Leicestershire cricket and wish the couple all the very best for the future.”

Seamer Harris has signed a one-year extension to his current deal while Naik and White have earnt two-year deals.
