Batsman Ed Joyce has signed a contract extension at Sussex which will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2012 season.
Joyce switched to the 2006 and 2007 LV County Champions from Middlesex at the end of last season and enjoyed a prolific first year, scoring 945 first-class runs and 941 runs in List A cricket, helping Sussex to the final of the Friends Provident Trophy and retain their NatWest Pro40 title.
The dual international, who helped Ireland qualify for the 2007 World Cup before representing England in the Caribbean and on tour in Australia in 2006/7, was named in England's 30-man provisional squad for the Champions Trophy but that was as close as he got to further international recognition.
Joyce said: “I’ve really enjoyed my first year at the Club and have settled in to the team and life on the south coast really well. The team had great success this year in the one-day arena. When I was offered a contract extension, I jumped at the chance and am very much looking forward to the next few years at Sussex.”
Mike Yardy, Sussex Captain, added: “Ed had a magnificent first season at the club and performed particularly well in the one-day form of the game. He is a great asset to the club and will play a vital role in getting Sussex back in the first division.”
