Sri Lankan all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan has signed to play for Sussex during the 2010 Friends Provident t20 competition.
Dilshan, who helped Sri Lanka reach the final of the ICC World Twenty20 in England last year, represented Northern Districts in New Zealand's domestic Twenty20 competition and will join Pakistani Yasir Arafat and West Indian Dwayne Smith in reigning champions Sussex's Twenty20 squad.
He also plays for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League and has played 60 Tests, 174 One-day Internationals and 23 Twenty20 Internationals for Sri Lanka.
“The recruitment of overseas players is becoming more complex as the international fixture list grows, including the possibility of staging major matches at neutral venues such as the UAE and USA," Mark Robinson, Professional Cricket Manager at Sussex commented.
"With Yasir Arafat likely to have Pakistan commitments and Dwayne Smith with the West Indies, the signing of one of the world's leading batsman gives us some exciting options.
“We want our main players to have genuine match winning ability and we believe we have that with Dilshan, Yasir and Dwayne. With that bit of luck always required, I feel our 2010 squad can emulate our 2009 t20 success.”
