Ponting doesn't last long though, he has century hangovers and gets out between 100 and 110

If Lara finds some form before that test match against India, he even might have some chance of breaking his own record!

what cricket master said is right ponting cruises to his century but then falls cheaply after it, if he just changes his approach alittle bit he would be unstoppable

Pontings highest score is 257*. But, I see Ponting or Gayle beating it.

Nope I disagree, he is 37 yrs old, probably going to quit after the world cup and has a lot of pressure on him now.

I know he is born in 1969, which means he will be 37 some time this yr, that's what I meant..but yeh I think he is still 36, not that it makes to much difference.

i honestly thought sehwag would breal the record if the weather held up in the fiorst test between pakistan and india where he scored 254 he was looking in magnificent touch going on and off just smashing the  bowlers

well, Lara has been the best player to make marathon scores but as your'll said, he is now 37. Sehwag has scored 3 double centuries and Dravid 5 double centuries so I think they stand a chance of getting the highest score but for them to make it, they still need to score it on a batting paradise pitch. My guess that the next highest score will come in Antigua, 3 triple centuries have been scored there or at the Oval, another bowlers graveyard

Dravid 5 double centuries!!!!!!! i'm shocked there's a stat i didn't know i think the players from teams that are some chance but probobably not

Australia-Matthew Hayden,Ricky Ponting

Bangladesh-Habibul Bashar (that would never happen but if it where to happen it'd be Bashar)

England-Marcus Trescothick

India-Virender Sehwag,Rahul Dravid

New Zealand-Stephen Fleming (only because he scored something like 270 against Sri Lanka)

Pakistan-Younis Khan

South Africa-Greame Smith

Sri Lanka-Kumar Sangakkara (already has 4 double centuries to his name)

West Indies-Brian Lara,Chris Gayle

Zimbabwe-It would never happen even if it did it still would't because it'd be a dream

It could be Gilly because he scores so quicky and always retains the strike. This is what Ponting said about him 'Gilchrist scores so freely and at the last ball of the over, he gets a single so then he can retain the strike'. When Ponting once batted with Gilchrist, Ponting only faced 13 balls in an hour of play! So Gilly has a chance, and I would say he would only face about 300 balls to reach 400.

Don't you get it? It does not matter about who's batting with him because like Ponting said, he ALWAYS gets a single of the last ball of the over! So then he could hit some thing like 6,4,4,6,0 then get a single on the last ball. It would not even matter if he bats with a tailender!

what you expect him to do that have you thought about that he can get out he may get singles off the last ball but eventually he gets out

The last real big score Ponting made was that 150 in the Ashes, he has scored plenty of tons after that but he has only scored around the 110 - 120

His century's starting from just before the Ashes go like this

Ricky Ponting 100s:

  • 105 - New Zealand
  • 156 - England
  • 149 - West Indies
  • 104* - West Indies
  • 117 - South Africa
  • 120 - South Africa
  • 143* - South Africa
  • 103 - South Africa
  • 116 - South Africa
  • 118* - Bangladesh

He's trying to prove to us that Ponting won't make 400.

Well it is interesting to look at those stats but Ponting is in great form right now! I don't think we should underestimate him because with the form he has and the kind of player he is, he does have a good chance of getting it. Really Ponting probably has the best form right now(with the bat).

the most runs record will be beaten by Ricky Ponting, the 400 may be beaten by another west indian no current english batsmen even looks like getting a double. Graeme Smith has 3 200's so he's a chance someone in the sub continent might cant see an aussie getting it or a kiwi. There probably someone that will but he's still a twinkle in his dads eye
