I was just wondering if someone could please tell me the difference between a 2 piece and a 4 piece cricket ball. Thanks.

EDIT: By difference I mean the way it looks and the way it behaves since I have heard that 2 piece balls swing more. Are four piece balls the ones that have like a split running down each side of the ball?

Apparently 2 piece balls swung far too much so were banned from some form of the game. You can see my knowledge is very fragmented.

You have it all right Rafay! My coach told me the same thing you said about the 2 piece and 4 piece balls. He is a veteran; 43 years old! He said the 2 piece use to swing wickedly especially when the tide is high and you are playing next to the sea.

I think 2 piece swings more when i was playing back home india we used them a lot and god they did swing alot since thelast 5 years in uk i have been playing wiht 4 piece, i found that thye swing as much as the 2 piece, i thinkit depends on your action and how u hit the seam and weather as well just not the ball. i have been playing for 15 odd years and last season, i took a tenner 10/22 in a lower division match, just to let you know iam not fibbing.

the difference between the 2 are the amount of pannels, and you will actually find that the prefrence of balls are different where you are, i found that in west australia they prefer the 2 piece balls, and a bit further north in the WA they prefer the 4 piece, i guess its to do with the atmosphere

the difference between tha balls is simple.. 2 peice swings alot more so they made one with 4 pieces... and also the 2 peice lost it shape too quik in a match wer as the 4 pc retains its shape for a longer period

You've not heard of the Blue Circle Engineering Brick ball?  Batsmen find it nigh on impossible to get it away.
When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

Where does everyone get their balls from? I got one from Lillywhites which was well cheap (£2.95) but it was too small and fell to bits.

The cheapest I've seen in the shops is about £6.

I've got my eye on some on eBay that are £16 for 6 delivered, 5 1/2 oz 2 piece. Does that sound like a good deal?

Thanks

I was reading a piece the other day and one of the veteran of the past is calling back for the 2 piece balls to give batsmen a run for the money since the pitches are more batting friendly now.
