Jayawardene now confirmed to play half a season as Derbyshire's mad signing spree continues.

And I've heard that they signed Wavell Hinds too as a kolpak player ofcourse! Hinds won't lose out really, he's in no way close to getting a recall to the Windies team soon. Best he try and learn something next season and see if he can then do something for Jamaica and make a return. He has age on his side still!

Vaughan Van Jaarsveld has turned his back on his Kolpak deal with Warwicks, much to their chagrin - I think my sympathy for them is literally in negative amounts!

So he's going for England qualification Clobs ? He was looked on
as the new kid on the block over here , oozed class on a number of
occasions.

no Sledge quite the opposite - having arrived over here signing a 3 year deal and saying he wants to qualify England, he's now had Gauteng contact Warks to tell them he's not coming back.

Right ! So the comment on the removal of quotas is having
an immediate effect . England's loss and South Africa's gain ,
this lad is going places.

if I were a South African cricketer I would be reluctant to play international cricket with a guy who brazenly turned his back on the country for material reasons, whatever his reason for the volte face may be.

He could well end up with nowhere to play. I'd expect
counties to be very wary of signing him up and the money from domestic
cricket here is average, at best. I can only think the powers
that be have made some promises that have swayed him.
If this is a knee jerk reaction , he could regret it for the rest of his life. |

Yeah. Found this out today as well. He will play for the Lions soon if everything goes to plan. Very good news for SA cricket...perhaps counties will be more reluctant to sign SA youngsters now.
1st the whole Petersen debacle and then Van Jaarsveld, has really made the UCB sit up and take notice. I wouldn't be surprised if they were very much involved in bringing him back. |

How is it that he can renege on a 3 year contract ? Surely
Warwickshire must be compensated after he pulls the plug after 12
months? They invested plenty in the lad , relocation ,
accommodation and quick promotion into the 1st XI , nevermind all that
dosh.
It appears contractual obligations no longer matter in any sport , they're not worth the paper they're written on. Turn it around and see what would happen if the county tried to terminate a contract early and see the hoohaa then. It's unprofessional and unethical in my eyes . |

Sadly Sledge, ethics is vanishing quite rapidly in this world! It's a norm nowadays.

Ethics?
Isn't that who Cook and Bopara play for? |
