Even if you are inaccurate. Slowing down wont really help you, what will is correcting your biomechanics and working on your action. Like practise bowling off 4 steps and just grooving your action, not trying to bowl fast and then after doing this for a while come off your full run up and try and bowl fast.

What's important is focus. As you run up, visualize the ball bouncing at a certain speed at a high speed and even the seam position ( for swing ). The skill for bowling fast and accurate is the skill of how well you can visualize the ball.
You'll get better and better. What's important is your run up - it should be rhythmic and slowly accelerate.
You never think about your action - your brain processes it.
A famous golfer let his secret out ( I don't remember the guy). He said before every shot he closed his eyes and imagined the ball landing right where he wanted it to. Then he would rewind it, and he would see him playing the shot (internally, not from an outside view).
You could do something similar.
For more info on :
a) Bowling Biomechanics (Science) : http://www.coachesinfo.com/category/cricket
b) Visualization : http://ezinearticles.com/?Cricket-Tips:-Visualisation:-The-Key-to-Cricket-Success?&id=36790
c) Cricket Coaches and Experts Forum: http://cricketsecrets.com/phpBB2/index.php
d) Greg Chappell's coaching site : http://www.chappellway.com.au
e) Psychology, fitness etc : http://www.harrowdrive.com
:D
Shaaz

Edited by shaazthegreat - 08 May 2007 at 2:33pm

This helps in two ways, it cuts down thestrain on your body and the chance of injury and it gives you morepower ad your hips can generate alot of extra speed and if your notstraight then you will lose quite alot.

With most bowlers i'd say work on your arm as well, make sure that whenyour at the top of your action your bowling arm is in a straight linedown your body with your opposite leg but as your not orthadox thatwont help you very much.

Most people who sling it alot have a very long delivery stride, theydive in, plant their back leg and lean a really long way forward withtheir leading leg, this will make you go very low but it must help insome way (I cant give much advice on this i have never tried it, justcomments from watching Tait and Malinga, the two who seem best at thisform of bowling) I assume it means you can then catapult your entirebody forward using your hips and upper body and then sling your armthrough.

So just basically go through your action step by step and work out how you can get your body to produce more speed.
Also the pacecombined with the angle that both he and Malinga let go of the ball atmeans its very hard to pick up the trajectory of the ball in the0.49-0.59 of a second or whatever that you have to react to a bowlerbowling in the 90s.

I'd say everything in cricket is about comprimise although this is onlymy view, extreme pace on its own probably wont get you many wickets, even pinpoint accuracy at 60mph is unlikely to get you all that mucheither. Either for what matter will swinging the ball, changing thepace of the ball or cutting the ball off the pitch if you have noaccuracy.

I'd say you need to have all the basics first before really becomminggood at doing one thing, personally my accuracy is pretty good, noMcgrath but it goes generally the right area and i've worked on my paceto get it to the point where its threatening enough considering whatthe ball is doing elsewhere either through the air or off the pitch. SoI guess my advice would be to follow coaching but to know your owngame, play to your own advantages and know how you want to play. If youwant to bowl at high pace then do that.
