Just for fun a few of us. Like most we tossed around a tennisball with some stumps I turned down on the lathe and a very old bat. Needles to say the bat smashed pritty quick bit as it was sutch fun we bought on from the sports shop. We had a game on December the 26th witch everyone enjoyed so Mitch we have all booked it in for next year. After this a few of us started to take it a tinny tinny bit moor sereousley and got together any weekend it wasnot raining and plade a few overs. Over time the stumps got further and further apart and we got a hard ball and a second hand pad. People started to bowl moor acuretley instantly and the two gut big tyre marks in the garden became moor notisable.
Sorry for the ramble but i hope it gives you an ideas as to the fun fun level I'm at witch is allso the reason I ask tentatively. We wuld like to prapare something like a wicket to play on. We have a rowller and a mower and rakes. We allso have stumps and a peace of hardwood hammered into the floor as a crease. All very good but batween them we have lawn and mossy lawn at that. It is leval with no humps but allso has two tyre divets coming threw mid wicket sweeping across the batsmanship end and off threw the covers.
If someone could advice me as to how I can fill theys and how I can rowller to get it a bit harder and how high to cut my grass that will be gratefully reseved. Or indeed point me to a web sight that can help.
I have done some reasirch but obviously it is all a bit Mutch. I'm not paraparing a county wicket, noir do I won't to stay off it for weeks on end rolling 8 hours a day, there are cars to keep alive. . Id happily spend a week or two wetting and Rowling and cutting the grass shorter and shorter but...... I hope you understand my confusion of iv not just confused you and will really be gratefull for any advice.

Thanks

Leon

Let me allso apologise for my awfull spelling. I dyslexic and just canot do it. I hope not to offend with my spelling witch has happened on forums before

Pitch marks are dropping yet clubs feel justified because they are getting results.
Answer is all about money available, with it you can do anything, without it nothing.
Do not use a heavy roller as that will only do damage. Chain harrowing is good as is vertidraining, seeding, fertilising and top dressing but this will cost around £7,000 and then you need water.
We chain harrow, cut and weedkill, would like to do more but no finance, yet we have no winter sport.

Its a sprayer which is towed behind a compact tractor or such like, and they come in a variety of widths and apparently price wise they are very reasonable, the only contact details i have for them at the moment is an email address which is mpa.sprayers@btinternet.com
I will be in touch with them so once i get more info i will post it on here if anyones interested.

It used to be the case that the football pitch would only encroach one side of the outfield but as the years went by it is now the case that all sides of the outfield have football played on it during the off season. With so much sport being played and the field not getting any rest it's needless to say it's in a pretty sorry state, there are areas where there isn't much grass growth and other areas where there are lots of weeds growing, the worst part is the huge cracks in the ground (some large enough to fit a cricket ball!) and the soil being incredibly bumpy.

Does anybody have any advice on what can be done during the short window in April (approximately 4 weeks) to improve the state of the outfield?

I have been told by a livery owner to chain harrow and then roll the outfield, will this be beneficially to my cause? (please note we only own a heavy roller)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are the bowlers any good? Is there any grass plant on the surface? Have you covers? Is the pitch hard?
Have you taken any core samples to see what is going on under the surface? Are there any breaks in the soil profile? Have you any layering? Is consolidation to depth? Have you any roots. Could there be a pan?
What part of the UK are you in, perhaps you could get a local groundsman or ECBPA in.
Good luck.
