I open the batting (on strike first ball), it used to be nerve-racking but now im used to it. I quite enjoy it even though I have a better record in the middle overs. im very much a attaking shotmaker 2, but by the time i get my eye in, usually its too late. i also put way toomuch pressure on myself, which probably dont help either

Despite being a powerful hitter of the ball I try to play myself in and adding shots during the innings. I normally start by either blocking or cutting. Once I've seen some of the strike I start working out shots that I can play safely, ways to move my feet depending on how it comes out the bowlers hand. When I get properly in I can just pick line and length easily. My best innings was a 51-ball 63*. I started slowly, took 5 off my first 22 balls (with one 4), got in then and then powered 58 off the next 29, mostly driven down the ground for 2s and 4s.

i  tend to start off slow it takes me at least 10-15 to get settled in and once i am i tend to attack


although if we are batting first i tend to come in at 4 or 5 my role is to keep my wicket punish the bad balls and rotate the strike

but if we are chasing i am pushed up the order either top opening or 3 and then my role is to attack and get the run rate down Smile


i would say my natural game is to attack tho

Adamz, Try leaning your weight through into the shot and also get a full follow through. Also do exercises such as press ups to increase the strength of your biceps and triceps.
 
Instead for looking for more power in your shots try knocking the balls for one's and two's because:
 
1. players that do this normally create a stable base for the batsman at the other end to take the risky shots.
2. They tend to be an anchor for the team and help settle the new batsmen.
3. They keep the runs ticking over, vital for setting a good score.
 
In my opinion hit the ball harder isn't as important as good timing. Whether you belt a one bounce four or you play a safe, well timed drive for four doesn't really matter. It counts as the same runs.
 
The best advice I can give you in becoming a better batsman is to practice timing and placement. Also practice the different shots over and over again.

I've been called a 'passive aggresive' batsmen by a few of my coaches. Basically, I go for basically everything(within reason), but don't often go for lofted shots. I'm going to spending all of this off-season working on my batting, as, although I had an average of about 30 last season, my defense is fatally weak, and almost always ends up with a bowled or LBW. My friend that i play with got, 2 seasons ago: an average of 250, and a strike rate of about 120. This was in u'13s.
 
Last season he got: an average of 24, and a strike rate of about 50.This was in u'15s.
 
I think this is due to the fact that the bowlers get better or worse.

like most said the best way to play is to get ur eye in and then go for ur shots but for this u need to have big scores shots and this is what my way of playing on fast bowling hitting straight over their heads and playing a full blooded cut are my most running shots while with slow bowlers sweeping normally earns me lots of runs.

one of my good performance(twice) was when my team needed 12 runs in last over and i got that by hitting two sixes, and once i got 17 runs in last over to get my team victorious.

Each ball on merit, and never discount the doddery old journeyman bowler who more often than not presents more of a threat than the genuine attack.  Running between the wicket is often more critical than choice of stroke, if you can keep the fielding team on their toes and worrying about run rate you are doing well as a batsman.

Confidence is an important part of my game, though some mistakenly call it arrogance.  As an opener I stride purposefully to the wicket and exhange banter with my partner.  Spend time looking at the wicket and examining the outfield.  Point at various parts of the ground whilst having a conversation as the field is set, making as if to criticise field placings.  My first shot is always the same, front foot forward defensive, regardless of the delivery (unless it's going to take my head off of course).

An early run on the board is essential, I do not do ducks.
