A bunch of us used to turn up to training and there would be no coach to take us. It happened every week, so we effectively coached ourselves and went into adult cricket, where at least some seniors players in the club gave us tips and advice.

On slightly different issue, its incredibly hard to find cricket nets open to the public. If your not a member of a club, you've either got to drive for miles or get your wallet out. Perhaps its just the area i live in, but all the nets are derelict and the well maintained nets are few and far between. No wonder my age group are out causing trouble and getting ASBO's.

Even doing a more local course was going to take quite a comitment time wise on my part. 9 untill 7 two days and a 4-5 hour assesment session is a lot without having to get into London for 9 in the morning.
Regarding the Kids in cricket thing, i emailed Micheal Vaughn through his site about this the otherday. If hes realy untent on pushing this kids cricket thing perhapes he can add a little pressure.

And i don't intend to stop there :(

When I spoke to Middlesex they advised that I find a club to coach at, as that gives you first priority apparently. I still haven't managed to find a course, but I coached all last season, I enjoyed it and importantly although not qualified I am certainly learning plenty about coaching kids. I'd suggest you do what I did, find a club with a big well-organised youth set-up with other professional coaches and get some experience.

Thats exactly what i,ve already done, but our club needs more qualified coaches so they can take net pratice and one on one etc we have about 130 colts registered at last count .It seems Essex is split into about five areas, the one im in the last was last october and the next, next october. I've also applyed for several in the other four essex areas but , guess what there all over subscribed.

This is a totaly ridiculas situation especialy with all the news coverage today regarding micheal vaughns new drive to get children playing cricket.

How are we supposed to do that when we can't get the qualified coaches, although we have plenty of experianced players willing to give there time for nothing if they can get the qualifications. Evidently there ar'nt the staff to teach the courses, this to me is a cop out and in my opinion the ECB is letting us all down. Surly the roots of a sucsessful England team in the future depend on the efforts put in now.

All we want to do is teach the game we all love so much to the kids that want to play.

Anyone with any ideas please post.
