Very funny well maybe if we have at least a couple of our best players out there, we might take it to the fourth or maybe even the fifth test.... who knows... but I certainly wouldn't bet on us winning it. Maybe if we can draw the series...

I read the article on cricinfo just after I posted - Tresco has had some sort of gastric infection and, more worryingly, an underlying stress related illness. My theory is that his doctors have told him to have a rest, and he's spoken to the management about it, and noone really cares about the ICC champions trophy anyway, and we really don't have any chance in hell of winning it with or without tresco, so they've said he can stay at home. Hopefully taking some time out to relax and sort himself out will increase the chances of us seeing the Tresco we all know and love out there in Brisbane on November 23rd (78 days!!).

Speaking of Harmison, does anyone else share my fear that he won't be fit for the Ashes?

On a more serious note , Tresco just doesn't seem to be up to international cricket right now. That he wants to go to Oz makes me think that it can't be that serious. If he can't cope in India , he hasn't a hope in Australia.

People seem to be saying this yet an in form Tres would've hammered that for 4, it was easily going down the legside and might've missed a 4th stump!

Tres seems to be struggling with something Mentally atm, he looks so out of sorts. Reminds me of the Thrope situation a bit.

Just read in The Guardian that Trescothick doesn't want to play in the ICC Trophy. If that's true , then I'm very disappointed.

I don't agree with players picking when and where they'll play. They're VERY privileged and it now seems , very spoilt.

Tresco is fantastic - even though he wouldn't know what "footwork"meant if someone whacked him over the head with a giant foot (a lapython). Yes, ok, so he's a little outof form at the moment, but so's KP, who's really annoying. Tresco is agreat slip catcher and obviously a wise old head in the dressing room,even if he is a little bit crazy. I hope him and Read sort out theirmisunderstandings though, cause otherwise alot of potential catches aregoing to be lost. But I have to agree, he is probably our most reliablebatsman (usually) and one of our only decent one-day batsman.

I'm not sure, but I think that him and SJones and Ali Cook all have their birthdays on Christmas. Aww.

i think he is a good player and a important player for england but he is is out of form and has not be scorin reguarly in the pakistan series and his place might be threatend by cook in the ashes

Yes Wal , he can't seem to get a run just now. Practically all batsmen suffer the same fate through their careers (listening KP?) and the best players just work a little harder and get through it.

I've no doubt Trescothick has been grafting hard and is hoping for a turnaround today , but the Rose Bowl must be one of the hardest places for an opener to re-establish himself against a quality attack.

For the series , let's hope he gets a big one today , because when he does the side tend to post a good score.

A consistent player no doubt Wal, but until he makes a big 1 against Australia i cannot rate him as highly as Strauss or even Haydos (in his glory days) and is probably on Par with Sehwag & G Smith IMO.

His distinct lack of footwork somedays lets him down, and tahts always been his trouble against Australia, Mcgrath in particular. No doubt though he is a valuable player in the english side, and when on fire, a stunning batsmen!

Obviously a good batsman. Not in the same category of classical opening batsman, but it's the fashion now to use attacking batsman to open innings. His mental contions is also quite good, disintegration does not work well with him (Gillespie once did in previous (2001 I think) Ashes by going round the wicket to him and getting him cheaplt in the series). Trescothick is a key part in the England squad, but if the team plays badly, it seems that people place the blame on him. If he plays well, it normally goes unoticed. trescothicks, batting is funny, especially his bottom hand. Its like sooo loose, as if hes hanging onto the abt so it wont drop. and yes he plays the straight drives with sooo much control.

is it the heavy bat he uses? or does he just have really huge forearms, like jimmy maher? =P

Trescothick was a major player in the Ashes victory. After the hiding in the 1st Test it all seemed doom and gloom all over again. The word was that Australia would win convincingly and England would freeze in the headlights like so many times previously.

That they didn't had a lot to do with Trescothick's approach. He attacked from the word go at Edgbaston and along with Strauss , Vaughan , Pietersen and Flintoff they really took it to the Aussie attack. Only Warne escaped with credit ,Lee, Gillespie and Kasper took a pounding - so much so that the latter two haven't been seen since.

marcus trescothick is really a stalwart 4 england. an integral part of england's resurgance in the international game since his debut in 2000. not the greatest footwork but to hell with that, he gets the job done. trescothinck to me had my vote to be england captain after nasser hussain's resignation, but Vaughan really has taken this team and formed them into his own.
