all these variations are fantastic, but is there really any point in them, surley all a great leg spinner needs in good leggy, a top spinner slider or flipper, and a googly. rather that all these fancy hippy balls and whatever

I said in another thread...and i dont mean to have a go...But from what i can read on the forum, Fishcake seems more interested in coming up with unspetacular names for every variation in flight and bounce than focussing on the simple art of off-spin.

If i named all my "variations" i would have 100s of them.

"Oh look that ball kept low abit, i'll call it "the crawler" and another ball bounced abit more so i'll call that "the destructacator" for it's wicket taking traits.

perhaps im being harsh

Fair enough, it's your opinion. Don't feel harsh about it.

Eventually batsmen will be able to pick you, so if you have a''different'' ball which they have never seen before then they will struggle and probably lose their wicket. Like Murali's new backspinner.

Don't get me wrong, bowlers have their variations. Perhaps the only difference between say mine and yours is that you name them? Having read my own post i feel i gave the impression that it really grieves me that you have all these variations and various names for them.

Thats not true, it's just the impression i get from reading a few posts on a forum which certainly cannot give me an idea of your bowling. Chances are that you are a very good bowler and can bowl these variations effectively. In which case i should shut up

yeh i get what your saying TCA, in nets i think everyone tries different things, either to trick the batsmen, or just to see what happens.

but like you i dont name these "variations"

I have a few variations i use frequently in the nets now but only a few i would use in a match situation at this currently time.

1. Off Break
2. Drifting Arm Ball
3. Quicker Ball
4. Full Flight, considerably slower.

These aren't my particular variations, just traditional Off Spin deliveries which i am trying to learn. I have tried gripping the ball in strange ways and doing all sorts of things in a search for something different but as of yet, i haven't found anything greatly exciting like Fishcake's "hippy spin" so he calls it.

Fishcake, can you bowl the doosra without bending your arm, as i have tried many times and cannot bow it with a straight arm! (how do you do it?)

I can't even do it with a bent arm. I'd love to be able to master it.

[QUOTE=XNDR]Fishcake, can you bowl the doosra without bending your arm?

Well, yes and no! I don't bowl ''conventional'' offspin, I bowl googlies.

So, technically my doosra would be a legspinner.

Yes and no!

Spot on! Does that make hippy spin more sensible or do you still think it's crazy?!

Crazy....

I've seen harbajan's doosra and it more straightens than moves away drastically but still very useful.

Nope, that's about as legal as mass murder. But still pretty awesome. I think they should just leave the whole bendy-arm doosra thing alone. They should give the people who invented it some credit.

I think bend should be allowed for the doosra. Why not allow innovations like this?

The whole bendy arm thing was to prevent fast bowlers from gaining extra speed. On in this recent decade has it been more applied to spinners.

Loads! Even though there are only 65 thousand people, on the island, there are six divisions and, numerous leagues with each club having b, c , d.. teams.
