A tentertive ask for help.

   Hi all

I'm Leon, live on the wirral and am a classic car engineer who loves the game of cricket and late last summer moved into a house with large ish garden. 
We started playing garden cricket in the summer and threw out the winter. Just for fun a few of us. Like most we tossed around a tennisball with some stumps I turned down on the lathe and a very old bat. Needles to say the bat smashed pritty quick bit as it was sutch fun we bought on from the sports shop. We had a game on December the 26th witch everyone enjoyed so Mitch we have all booked it in for next year. After this a few of us started to take it a tinny tinny bit moor sereousley and got together any weekend it wasnot raining and plade a few overs. Over time the stumps got further and further apart and we got a hard ball and a second hand pad. People started to bowl moor acuretley instantly and the two gut big tyre marks in the garden became moor notisable.
Sorry for the ramble but i hope  it gives you an ideas as to the fun fun level I'm at witch is allso the reason I ask tentatively. We wuld like to prapare something like a wicket to play on. We have a rowller and a mower and rakes. We allso have stumps and a peace of hardwood hammered into the floor as a crease. All very good but batween them we have lawn and mossy lawn at that. It is leval with no humps but allso has two tyre divets coming threw mid wicket sweeping across the batsmanship end and off threw the covers. 
If someone could advice me as to how I can fill theys and how I can rowller to get it a bit harder and how high to cut my grass that will be gratefully reseved. Or indeed point me to a web sight that can help. 
I have done some reasirch but obviously it is all a bit Mutch. I'm not paraparing a county wicket, noir do I won't to stay off it for weeks on end rolling 8 hours a day, there are cars to keep alive. . Id happily spend a week or two wetting and Rowling and cutting the grass shorter and shorter but...... I hope you understand my confusion of iv not just confused you and will really be gratefull for any advice.

	Hi Leon, once you get the proper tools, its not hard to prepare a deck. One of the most important things of preparing a deck is when setting it. Luckily at times, dirt that's been sunk on from constant trampling (like players runnings, vehicles riding on it) may just need some watering, then when nearly dried out, some rolling with a heavy roller and it will bounce properly. If you want to do it from scratch, outline the pitch area, dig it up, and get soil that is more clayish in nature. Rake in that dug up dirt into the layed out pitch, rakes it fine and level, and then wet it heavily. Leave it to soak until evening (best to wet it early morning), and then put on a roller on it when nearly dried out. Apply dead grass on the wet relaid pitch in the morning, because when you are going to roll it in the evening, if the roller makes direct contact with the dirt, it will remove it and leave some patches. Remember this is the setting stage, so dirt should not be fully dried or a little damp when rolling in the evening. That is the setting stage. Once that is then, it should be hard the next day, then you water it and roll like normal to keep it hard and fresh. on playing days, just sprinkle it early in the morning and then roll, and play an hour or two later.
