Ironically, the stores blame the price on the ever increasing demand from India and Pakistan that buy so much of the willow.

Just saw some bats today and they caught my eye, well designed to catch the new generation of lads. Anyhow, saw 2 MRF bat and picked them up and was messing around with them. Both were Kashmir Willow, one was the prodigy and the other the typhoon. The prodigy swept me off my feet (yeah, just like a girl eh), it was light, handle the correct length as far as i'm concerned and the handle was thinish, just good so I can have a full wrap around the bat the way I like and it will allow for a bullet like swing.
I'm contemplating buying it. The price is EC$155 or US$58 which seems quite cheap to me, which is making me a bit skeptical. I know Kashmir willow is cheaper than English Willow but how much cheaper really?

Here's a couple of photos of the latest addition to my family.
I had decided to treat myself to a new bat even though I don't really need one, but the batmakers I contacted were either too expensive or couldn't/wouldn't make something to the spec I wanted. So I got in touch with my old pal Mohit at Champ in India, and 6 days later this beauty arrived at my door. It's not quite the spec I asked for, which was shaped like the Ignite Andrew Strauss was using in the West Indies last year, and has concaving on the back, but I am still really pleased with it. It's 2'11 or fractionally under. edges around 33mm, and the ball rebounded off it impressively when I knocked one up and down a few times. My Hawk is going well at the moment so this will have to wait its turn, but I am looking forward to giving it a real go. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Howdy lads, i now fortunately have a part time job, and due to that, i am now able to get a new bat my budget is £250, i recently purchased a kookaburra blade 750, 3 months ago, but i suspect, soon from the over use at the nets and playing for three clubs and training would have something to do with soon getting a new one, I am particualarly interested in Gray nicholls and Kookaburra, Any ideas out of those brands?

Depends on the batter - I hear Kookabura Kahuna is specialised with boundary hitting and that's true, my bro had one, a lot of players use to bat with it because of the ease it could get the ball away to the boundary although I think they come with a bit of weight.
Overall though, I think bats should be all about the feel, ofcourse, it has to be a bat that won't break after 2 try.

I bought a "screaming cat" the other week and it must be the best cricket bat I have ever seen. with the best ping off the bat as well. I would recommend these bats to anyone.. they are available only online made by Julian Millichamp who used to make bats for adam gilchrist (and possibly Ponting.. shhh..)
I got a series 5 in the pro- willow. Here is the website..
www.screamingcat.com.au If you've got the dough to spend invest in these bats they are literally the best I have seen and I have used Bradbury, Laver & Wood etc. These bats are on the next level.

I also have a Laver & Wood "Signature" bat and I must say that the Screaming Cat has greater ping off the face.
James is one hell of a batmaker but I think that Julian Millichamp is on another rung higher than Mr Laver..

Prices for L & W bats have gone through the roof here lately, due to exchange rates among other things. When I looked at buying a Private Bin in Jan 2008, they were £220, and now are a whopping £340.
The Signature has gone from £700 to £950. £950!! Edited by Clobber - 11 November 2010 at 4:30pm |

I pay in $AUS so it isn't that bad- still $1700 AUD for the whole signature package..
I would suggest Screaming Cat over L&W anyway. And I've used the best of both now..

I would definitely love to try both, but can't see myself shelling out that much for a bat ever unless they come with a written guarantee that I will score 10 hundreds a season (bearing in mind I've never managed one yet!). Besides I have 3 good bats in my bag as it is which will do me for a while yet.

Hi everyone, first post on here! I've had my current bat for around three years now (Kookaburra Growling Beast) and i've never been all that happy with it, the pick up is slugish and the bat itself just feel slightly unwieldy in my hands. I was just wondering what i should look for in a new bat as i've heard that different playing styles require different heightened middles and so forth. So any help on what i sould look at would be great thanks
. I'm basically a front foot player, mostly defensive (straight drives, blocks) but when i do go for the shot its usually a slog . I'm looking for a bat (200-300 Australian) with a light pick up, and one that feels light in the hands. All suggestions appreciated thanks!! |

Hi Mouse Im a bit the same when I bat i like to play lofted straight drives and cover drive but i also use a light bat so i can plat the good old fashion cow corner shot or pull shot I found having the pick up more toward the toe and a slight bow to the blade helps me but you would have to see for yourself I guess . Depends on how quick the bowling is and do you want to keep the ball more on the ground than in the air,Tecnique is all for that but a good bat can definatly help to fit your style, I know a new brand out in brisbane that can definatly help you out an if ya want some details let me no and i will pass them on. Gl mate an I hope this helps a little

1 more thing Mouse Im now using a 2"10" that picks up like a 2"7 -2"8 if the bat maker is good at what he dose you will see and feel the difference and it has a lot to do with the pressure the willow is rolled at at the time of making the bat hence some of the thick light bats u see these days |

Thanks jkaus. I took note of your advice, it helped when i finally went got a new bat today in the boxing day sales :D Ended up getting a grey nic powerbow at 2'7. I was leaning towards a nitro but there weren't any in stock and 30% off was too good to pass up! It's got a nice slight bow to th blade and feels simply superb in the hands... great buy!

Hi everyone, first time on here so hope this post is in the right place.
I'm off to India on a holiday next week and I'm keen to get a few custom bats made up. Has anyone had any experience/dealings with bat manufacturers out there (especially Meerut region)?? Does anyone have any recommendations? Many thanks! |

It's a shame Tom/Tevans doesn't post here any more, he could have given you loads of info. You will probably find him over on the Cricket Supplies forum if you are so inclined.
I haven't got a clue about the geography unfortunately, so might be giving you names that are 1000's of miles away from where you are going to be, but aside from the Champ details I gave you in the PM, I am a fan of Matrrixx bats, and they will make them to order if you wish.

Talking about bats, I got one on a few days ago out of Pakistan, Ihsan brand. It has a very thick edge and fat meat. The best thing is, the bat is extremely light so I can still put a hammering on the faster guys if they want to bowl short. Got about 7 grains, haven't even knocked it in yet but it 'looks' as if it will play well.
