Generally yes.  As a bat gets older, it will give a better ping.  And you will not hear a great sound from areas that appears to have plenty meat higher up on a bat.  Generally, the sound there on all bats is different, compare to if it hits lower down on the bat.

And size of sweet spot is defined by the grade of willow used.  Lower grade willow bats will not have an enormous sweet spot, despite what the respective owners say to hype up their bats.  The meat behind can help for a more powerful lower sweet spot though, and greater force behind the ball to give it a more forceful shot.  A bat 1 inches thick can hit a ball as hard as a bat 2 inches thick.  A grade 4 willow bat cannot hit as sweetly as a grade 1 bat.  Grade 1 bats will just require a push nowadays and the balls will be racing away.

lastly, it sounds to me that your bat is ok.  Try not to worry about your bat sounding sweet.  Just try and find the sweet spot and you will be all fine.  As I also mentioned before, bats like these tend to favour power hitters more.

What Price did you pay for it?  I think if you got it for less than $7,000 rupees, its probably a fake.

hey guys i have been arguing with some mates about the bats the australia team uses. I've been telling them that they use mostly indian manufactured bats, but they think that ponting and all actually use bats from kookaburra etc. just cause the stickers are on the bat. Am i right or wrong..and if i am right do you have any links where they state that ponting etc use indian made bats otherwise they wont believe me.

There is no simple answer to that one I am afraid. Players have frequently used different bats to the stickers they are sporting - most common among subcontinent players, but there have been photos of Australians using bats with "SS" or "Ton" on the edges to support your argument to some extent.

In my opinion though, those instances would simple be a case of them being on tour there and looking for a profile suited to the local conditions - much like various Indian players were said to be using stickered up Newbury bats on their last tour of England.

In Ponting's specific case, I vaguely recall a debate about it on the forum from years ago when someone contacted Kookaburra, and received a response from a product manager stating that they did indeed make Ponting's bats themselves.

i see...so is it true that kookaburra bats are made in india as 'spin wizard' was saying..and clobs you said that it was confirmed that kookaburra did indeed make ponting's bats so that means his bat was not made in india?

David, SG makes Kookabura gears.  SG is in India, therefore Kookabura gears are made in India.  This is a fact.  There are other brands that are made in India by one manufacturing unit.  GM have their range of gears that are made in India as well.  SS, SG, SF, SM, BDM, MRF, Kookabura, RNS Larson, Reebok, Nike, Puma, Slazenger, GM, Addidas Master Blaster are all made in India.  GM also has a range made in England too, so not all GM are made in India.  Not sure if the same applies for Slazenger, but there are some Slazenger that are made in India as well.

The brand that VVS Laxman uses, that company does make gears for couple of the brands I mentioned above, but I can't remember which exact ones they are.

btw my mate is now saying that kookaburra bays are probably made in india coz of the cheap labour and since the labour is expensive in australia no one buys it in australia...LOL..people nowadays are so ignorant.

David, your friend is wrong, bats don't sell cheap in Australia yet many are sold.  Australians mainly go for quality.  I know a guy who has his own brand in Australia, and his cheapest bat is US$300, and already for the Australia season, he's sold more than 60 bats.

Never heard of the brand mate.  Many people are starting their own brand today, this is another classic case of it.  It does not mean that it won't be a good brand.

Hi everyone, im looking for a bat that would suit me, i am normally placed maybe 5 or 6th in the batting order and have always been a big hitter. I need a bat that would suit me, must be light but have a big sweet spot and pick up. also nothing too expensive, no more than £200. can anyone give me any ideas as to what would be a perfect choice for me?
