The grounds in India are relatively small and the wickets are batting tracks for sure. The ball doesn't turn that much either on these wickets. The pitches are definitely made for batsmen and it's not hard to be hitting sixes if you have a good eye. Pollard is one example. I doubt Pollard would hit as many sixes in Australia, I'm sure his Big Bash stats would reveal that. Simply, the grounds here are a lot larger.

India has come a long way in cricket, it's been overdue, but finally they are showing ability to win abroad. India has the largest pool of talent, the largest following and support for cricket and their board has the most cash to back up the game. They should be number one and the investment has paid off. Australia has justified its no.1 ranking in ODIs. Pakistan beat them in the World Cup, but Australia beat them 5-0 at home last year in the ODI series. Certainly Australia didn't like the world Cup conditions and came off a huge season. India deservedly won, but all the top 4 teams are par. SL, India, Australia and South Africa are basically equal no.1.

Yes the grounds in the sub-continents are smaller and the pitches are batting friendly too a lot of times, but not always I may add. These pitches do pose their own challenge esp when the pitches gets slow and becomes two paced, then a lot of teams tend to struggle esp the teams outside the sub-continents which was clearly evident during the later stages of the world cup, where teams like England, SA, NZ, WI and to an extend Aus simply struggled to get used to. No surprises why three asian teams made it to the last 4. Like the asian teams are out of their comfort zone when they tour outside the sub-continents the others struggle over here when the pitches are no more flat and true.

I'm optimistic! We're not that bad! Bowling attack is a little bit un-penetrative to be honest.
