Afghanistan gave good fight to the aussies in the first game, which was a warm up for the aussies.

Eagerly looking forward to this series, an important one for Pakistan going in to the World T20. Go boys, get the job done!

A defeat in the first game alright, again the batting failing pakistan.

I'm very confident of a come back though, God willing, the way Australia were clueless against spin of Ajmal, Hafeez and Afridi, I'm very very hopeful that Pakistan will be able to win the next two games and with that the series.

You were right Sam Pakistan won!! that too without Afridi. Great innings from Nasir really a wonderful player to watch.

Kudos  to the players to be playing in 55 degree centigrade. It must be really tough on them. The 2 ODIs so far have been really absorbing to watch - never a dull moment. Makes me believe ODIs are here to stay.

Jamshed played absolutely superbly - he just needs to work on his fitness though. Pakistan still have the edge with the spin weapon going into the last ODI. With the exception of Clarke and Hussey, no Aussie batsman has looked comfortable facing spin, which is a concern. I like the look of this Pakistan batting line. The inclusion of Azhar And Asad will benefit Pakistan in the long run for sure.

I had that feeling Mystery because of the way I saw Aussie batsmen struggling in the first game despite the eventual win,  and I think Pakistan win the last one too, God willing.

I'm still not entirely convinced about Asad (he is good but some how I feel he needs to be more consistent and a bit more aggressive) but surey Azhar is here to stay and can be a player like Ijaz Ahmed for Pakistan, Umer Akmal can be the next Inzamam! Smile

Nasir has played some good knocks in the past but this is definitely his best, for the first time I'd say he played an excellent knock in difficult conditions and under pressure, well done Nasir. Aussies will continue to struggle against Spin, and with Junaid, pakistan have found an able replacement for Aamer, this lad Junaid is going to be a BIG star, inshallah.

The biggest plus point Junaid has is his attitude which is really what makes him different from Gul or some other bowlers Pakistan have tried.

Just saw in cricket news, PAK included 4 spinner for the series decider. This is exactly what I call using the home advantage (UAE supposed to be home as of now). Anyway not sure if this 4 spinner strategy might work, Aussies might have no other option but to attack and play positive, coz the worst they can do is to lose which they eventually will if they do not attack any spinner. Now that they have nothing to lose they might click with positive outlook, after all it is a 50 over format unlike longer format.

By the way Pak 112/0 in 23 overs setting a great platform.

Will be absolutely wonderful if he can become as good as Salim Malik, Zuhair! I hope so...

Very good performance by Pakistan so far, 136/1 in 27 overs, Hafeez going strong and Jamshed played well again, what pleases me the most is that of late Pakistan have had good opening partnerships and the moment this has started to happen, the results are showing, now Pakistan are winning a lot more, I remember almost all of us talking about Pakistan's opening problems and how that is one of the most important factors in them not winning more often.

With a solid platform set, Pakistan should look for 300 may be, can never ever underestimate Australia, spinners or anyone, they are a professional unit and will give their best when they come out to bat.

see Afridi in and Afridi out mystery, I don't have anything against him and I know once in a while he does win games on his own, however, I think Pakistan, at least in ODI's, are better off without Afridi, there are definitely better bowlers than Shahid out there and even Saeed Ajmal can bat better than him at times, so why have him in ODI's, T20's I'm absolutely OK, but ODI's NO.

2-1 to Australia , something I didn't expect!  Afridi has as many detractors as supporters nowadays and it's been a long time since he batted with any authority or commonsense. I'm with Sam , keep him for T20 but find a replacement for the 50 over format.

Congratulations to Aussies on winning  the series, Clarke will be more happy as the opposition had packed with 4 spinners on a slow and spin friendly track.

As I said , 4 spinner in a 50 over format was risky, firstly the lone fast bowler ( Junaid) would be targetted for sure, secondly Aussies would have had mentally prepared to attack spin, coz there isn't a fast bowler who would come back and bowl, so they had to attack spinners.

Unfortunate and disappointing for Pakistan fans, admit they just weren't good enough, the middle order fell at least 30-40 runs short after the kind of start the openers gave, the bowling was one dimensional, for a change I'd agree with Raj, the Aussies would know what to do, so much so that they opened with David knowing one spinner had to open the bowling. 4 spinners is not an option, esp when you know Dew is a major factor, not when you are Pakistan, Pakistan which has produced Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younus, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammed Asif, Mohammed Aamer, Aaqib javed... 4 spinners??? where are we going, is this the same old Pakistan??? I don't think so.

secondly I'd like to congratulate Australia, this is one of the most special wins, unbelievably hot conditions, slow wickets, sluggish outfield, you wouldn't give them chance, but here they are, what a professional outfit, what a performance without Shane Watson, world's leading all rounder (arguably), the will to win, the will to perform, the will to succeed has beaten Pakistan, who unfortunately hardly, if ever, look inspired. Well done Michael Clarke and his men!

I don't believe in crying over what has happened though, the focus now shifts to T20's with the WT20 and CLT20 lined up over the next two months, an opportunity for Pakistan to identify some young talent, and draft them into the ODI side, lets look forward, this is a talented team, we all know that, the grooming has to be there though, God willing, their time will come.

Firstly Sam i don't think Afridi time is over he is just 32/33 he can still easily play for atleast 3-4 years and to me he is a bowler not a all-rounder If you take his stats as a bowler only they are good to have him playing and i would say Pakistan had no option but to play 4 spinners and to be honest it actually was a right decision. They only lost because of some silly decision they made and the catching plus Kamran miss stumping was the difference. If they played 2 fast bowler than it would have been Tanvir/Cheema or Anwar Ali in my view if i was the captain i would any day pick 4 spinners instead of those 3 on that pitch and yes Australia were prepare for it but that does not make sense not to play your best lineup because other team are preparing for it even Australia played all fast bowlers so does that not make Pakistani mentally prepare?

The thing is mystery, it's very easy these days to hit big sixes against the spinners no matter how good they are, T20 has made this difference, so when you play 4 spinners you are giving an extended opportunity, infact an unending opportunity to the opposition to go for the big hits anytime they like, because a spinner will be operating always, and that's exactly what Australia did, everytime we thought the pressure is building, they were hitting a six and a four and the pressure was back on Pakistan. Also dew was a factor, Misbah had no where to go when he saw the spinners struggling because of the dew, the other options he had were also spinners.

on Afridi, mystery he is overrated, I don't have anything against him, I'd love to have him in there if he performs, but even his bowling is not always up to the mark, agreed he is a fair enough bowler but you look at the balance, for example if there was Razzaq or Hammad playing instead of him yesterday, Pakistan would have had a fast bowling all rounder, rather than another spinner (because Afridi isn't exactly a batsmen, you cannot rely on him) so you see the balance is better without him. Afridi is just a bowler, but PAK need a genuine allrounder in place of him, someone more reliable with the bat.

Afridi has played his trade I am pretty sure. I never rated him with the bat - but now even his bowling is losing steam and I am sure he will soon be playing T20s all over the world. Good for him, good for all of us.

Pakistan win the series in the super over!!! Thumbs Up but what has delighted me is the way Pakistan fielded and bowled, absolutely brilliant fielding, I couldn't believe my eyes that is was Pakistan who were fielding like south africans, and what unbelievable discipline in bowling, throughout the match they conceded just one leg bye and then in super over there was 1 wide... hard to believe, I wonder if this has something to do with the appointment of Mohammed Akram as the bowling coach, haven't seen Pakistan bowl with such discipline in my life!!! Clap Mashallah, I hope this continues in the WT20.

well one of the worst things to have a Direct to Home service like Tata Sky is that you damn can't get the signal when it rains, and it is raining cats and dogs and I just can't watch the game... good old cable had a big advantage here. Angry Angry Angry

following it on cricinfo, AUS have put up an impressive 168/7... interesting to see (or may be in my case read) if Pakistan can get there! Go Boys!!!

alright, good that one such bad day is out of the window... good that it happened after the series was won and good that it happened before the WT20.

Focus now has to be on the tourney, I'm happy with the  squad, just a matter of performing now, and performing well.
