Poor guy, although I can't see it really affecting Australia. He has
not done all that much in the test arena, and gives them the chance to
either player another batsman (not that they particulaly need it), or
stick MacGill in. Will be hoping that Watson is alright soon, and
starts living up to his potential, especially with SA coming. They need
another all-rounder (other than Gilly), helps with the balance of their
team.

Easy victory for the Aussies, but a few worries for them in that Watson is out for 2 months, a debut for Hodge may be on the cards or even a recall for Symonds. Disappointing for Hussey not to get many runs, but I imagine if they go for another batsman in the place of Watson, and Langer is fit, Hussey may well drop down the order (or come in at 4 instead of Clarke.)
I read also that Katich is under some pressure also - I guess with Hussey/Hodge the favourite to take his place, I'm ruling out a return (just yet) of Martyn.

well, if hussey doesn't make atleast a few strong performances later in this series, he will be dropped, but i agree with wolfman, it doesn't really seem to be affecting australia.

well, katich and langer are out of the second test match, and symonds and hodge are in.
this is another oppurtunity for andrew symonds to make his mark.

latest news from cricinfo:
shane warne wants the australian board to pick fellow spinner Stuart MacGill for the spin friendly Hobart. He says this will be double the trouble for the Windies.
Warne and MacGill are at there peak. In the last 2 tests between the 2 of them they have taken a total of 28 wickets. that's amazing!

MacGill always bowls so well for Australia yet they never keep him. As for
the series, It really was an embarrassing 100th match between the two
teams as australia killed them. I can't see West Indies getting close in any
of the other matches, especially since Lara is out of form and the team is
struggling to keep together.
|
|
My two favourite Batsmen:
Jacques Kallis is a very solid but destructive batsmen and not to mention he can bowl as well.
I also like Michael Clarke for his amazing batting talent at such a young age

yea lara really is struggling to find form and as you said the WI team is struggling to keep together.
and you're right MacGill performs so well, and yet they don't choose him. i can't think of any reason why that is.

G-ayle came back and topscored with a battling 56. Chanderpaul nurdled 39 and then nothing from anyone else!
Winning the toss and batting 1st on a slow track in sunny conditions should have given the Windies heart...
...instead we witnessed yet more proof that they are dreadfully weak.
All out for 149 .......pitiful.
What chances Aussie a declaration when 300+ ahead and winning late on day 3 ?

It is going to be a huge score. Hussey, Clarke, Hodge, and Symonds will
all want to prove themselves. Do you know that Hussey has 3 triple tons
in first class and 15000 runs and he's only just been picked!!

Rain delays the start of day 2. Must be West Indies's only hope for a result.

yea, recman must have been praying for rain because the Windies know that they can't even manage a draw against australia.
this is a chance for windies to avoid a white wash. i hope they can...

Mind, even if Australia lose a whole day to rain, they'll still probably win.
The forecast is for light rain today, but sunny for the rest of the game.

They've lost a session in the end, Australia are now 69/0 looking untroubled.

The Windies are dying slowly and it really is tragic to watch. Chanderpaul must go , this side is listless , scrappy in the field and without any fighting spirit.
It looks like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have hope , there's another side there for the taking.
Australia 165-0 after only 42 overs.
Hussey 80 and Haydn 77
It's murder in the streets and even the most passionate Aussie supporter must be fed up with this non-contest.

Hussey outstripped Haydn to his 1st test ton , great effort by the 30 year old. Haydn unbeaten on 98 and Australia are purring along at 212-0 after 51 overs.
If this was a boxing match , it'd be stopped !!

At last , Colleymore dismisses Haydn , caught by Bravo for 110.
Ponting in and off the mark immediately , Australia stuttering on 232-1 !!!

Respite comes to the weary Windies as the umpires call time. Hussey unbeaten on 116 and Ponting on 17.
Australia 256-1 , already 107 ahead.
The weather was iffy today and the Windies can only hope it turns Manchesterish for the next three days!!

Australia are totally crushing the West Indies. Hussey scores his first test century in only his second match and he looks like he isn't going to get out any time soon, maybe he will score a double century.
