Topic: Bangladesh in NewZealand Posted: 13 January 2008 at 9:07pm |
Their fielding was terrible yesterday, and they may have reduced NZ to a much lesser total if their catching was up to standard. Their top order seem to be too brash at the beginning of the day, e.g. - playing strokes that are unneccesary, which then leads to an edge.
Not that the NZ top order was any better!

Before the start of the third days play, Ian Smith was asking Mark Richardson some challenging questions. Would he have Craig Cumming in the side? He was unsure, saying that he still hasn't sorted his lbw concerns and that he won't have many more opportunities to prove himself. How, on the other hand is a good prospect and would compliment both the ODI and test sides nicely, he said.
On Bond, he said he would pick him if available and wasn't sure whether he'd rather play for NZ of take the money to play overseas. Excellent discussion and good on Ian Smith, who I think is one of the world's best commentators.

Looking at that Shahadat Hossain fellow yesterday, and he did bowl pretty well, i just realised he's actually changed/tightened up his action since the last test. His shoulder used to fall away terribly when he was delivering the ball, but now it doesn't fall away nearly as much, which showed in his improved performance.

well thats it Bangladesh have been rolled for 143 and 113 another poor batting display by them. NZ didn't really bat to well themselves, but still managed 393 to give a commanding lead and then a win of an innings and 137 runs. So the series is wrapped up 2-0 to NZ nothing suprising there, yet Bangladesh will still obviously be very disapointed with there showing.

Well thank god the series is over. Cant really take much out of it, O'brien did start to show some improvment in his bowling though.
All i can say is i hope is umpire fellow Parker isn't scheduled for any of the england games. He's missed blatant caught behinds and given a few very iffy LBW's. Its also worth a mention more than half of his shockers went against Bangladesh, making their chances of being competitive even less.

Llong from England was ok and is tipped to be the best of the young up and coming umpires.

Well, all in all a comprehensive clean sweep by NZ, both in the ODI's and in the two test matches. NZ's batting will need to show much more resistance and top order performance if we are to be successful against England. Also, a few changes may be required, maybe the likes of Styris coming back into the side and also the inclusion of Jamie How to take Craig 'lbw' cumming's spot as an opener.

i haven't seen much of the series, but in the end a comprehensive win for the kiwis as they complete a whitewash except for that 20-20 game.\
good show by the kiwis, but that england tour will be a very interesting hard fought battle. i'd edge in favour of england, although i'm sure NZL can pull off a series win there.

If Bond plays we'll have 3 of the top 10 ICC ranked bowlers playing. Bond, Vettori and Mills, along with Oram and Patel makes for a well balanced attack. Styris is a handy ODI bowler and is sure to be used, even if he's not a part of the test side.
The test series should be won by England, even if NZ has Bond, purely because their batting is better and their bowling should be enough to take 20 wickets at least once in the series.

Spot on bondy, if you can't pass 400 against Bangladesh then you aren't going to be giving Hoggard and Sidebottom sleepless nights any time soon!

I have to agree with that. He was confident and was totally sure of his judgments.

And like Sledge mentioned, if Harmison gets his rhythm going!! Hoggard especially, who had an excellent series last time he played here, is a real threat. The pitches that were played on against Bangladesh weren't a seamer's paradise. They were good wickets- and to not score 400 against the quality of bowling that we faced (it wasn't too bad, but nothing on England) has most certainly sealed our fate!

Bond's contract only begins on the 1st of April, so he's able to play for the Black Caps before then, technically. Whether he'll want to risk his fitness playing for NZ is beyond me at this point.
