Topic: Bangladesh in South Africa Posted: 04 November 2008 at 5:23pm |
Bangladesh tour south africa for 3 ODI's, 2 Tests and one T20. this is bound to be one of the toughest tours for BAN, however, shahadat was extremely impressive against RSA last year, and BAN will hope for a good showing from him and mashrafe once again. what will really matter though is their batting.
for RSA, this should be a practice series ahead of their big battle against the aussies, and yes, AB de villiers must be a relieved man, as here he won't get surfaces where the ball bounces twice before reaching him!!!
here is the list of fixtures:
Wed 5 18:00 local, 16:00 GMT |
Only Twenty20 International - South Africa v Bangladesh New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
|
Fri 7 14:30 local, 12:30 GMT |
1st ODI - South Africa v Bangladesh Senwes Park, Potchefstroom
|
Sun 9 10:00 local, 08:00 GMT |
2nd ODI - South Africa v Bangladesh Willowmoore Park, Benoni
|
Wed 12 14:30 local, 12:30 GMT |
3rd ODI - South Africa v Bangladesh Buffalo Park, East London
|
Sat 15 - Sun 16 10:30 local, 08:30 GMT |
South African Airways Challenge XI v Bangladeshis De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley
|
Wed 19 - Sun 23 10:30 local, 08:30 GMT |
1st Test - South Africa v Bangladesh OUTsurance Oval, Bloemfontein
|
Wed 26 - Sun 30 10:30 local, 08:30 GMT |
2nd Test - South Africa v Bangladesh SuperSport Park, Centurion

The New Wanderers Stadium Sam ? It was opened more
than 45 years ago! Like many grounds around the world , it's
name has changed because of sponsorship - it's officially called
Liberty Life Wanderers nowadays.
Nevermind what the ground's are called , this'll be murder in the streets.

SA win the T20 bashfest by 12 runs under Duckworth/Lewis .
A typical highveld thunderstorm interrupted proceedings and reduced the
match to a 14 over affair. At one stage the visitors were 50-odd
for 1 and looking like winning (which would've meant a grovelling
apology to Sam!) but they fell away in the end. Steyn looked
pretty sharp and will get better as they head towards the two tests.

I was pretty sure they will colapse. I was watching the game live. Even at 60/1, when ashraful was going mad, I knew they will choke soon and they did.
And thanks goodness, there are no 5 or 7 one day games in the series.

Herschelle's in trouble again and has been sent home to Cape
Town. He broke a curfew on Tuesday night and won't be playing in
any of the 3 one dayers that start on Friday. His divorce is an acrimonious one and I
feel some sympathy for him , but my question is why did they allow him
to play yesterday when he'd broken the curfew ?
He'll be missed and they're
forcing him to go to through an alcoholic rehabilitation
programme. That strikes me as an overreaction, as he's always
liked a drink , along with many in the SA dressingroom.
As a Gibbs fan , I just hope it's not the end of his international career.

It's standard practice as per the terms of his contract.

sadly this series is not being broadcasted in india, and thats a surprise because it's not often that we miss a cricket series in india.
i don't get it, what does it mean by "breaking the curfew", and what does that punishment mean? even i dearly hope Gibbs comes back into the national side soon. he is one of the most glorious batsmen to watch when in full flow!!!

It means he stayed out later than he should have, and by implication, was consuming more alcohol than he should have been.
Didn't stop him playing some fine strokes, though.

The news for Herschelle just gets worse. His divorce cost him a small
fortune (he was only married a year) , his drink/driving case comes to
court next month and his TV commentators deal with ESPN for the ICL is
now in jeopardy. It never rains but it pours....

IPL commentrary - don't remind me of that Sledge. Thats is the worst commentary that ever went through my ears. all those citi moment of success and those HUGE 55 m sixes, made me sick. good that Gibbs Won't be a part of that thing, hopefully.

BAN Innings . . . 4 4 . | 1 . . 4 . . | . 4 4 . 4 4
They certainly aren't going down without a fight, they may still lose very badly but i've said this before and i say this again, the talent that i see in this bangladeshi team is astonishing. they need proper grooming though and whatmore was the man who was doing it.

Bangladesh have certainly shown improvement. I was mighty impressed by the fight they showed against NZ on the whole tour. It wasn't like other tours where they challenged only once and then went quiet. They kept NZ on their toes on the whole tour and that was good to see.
I don't expect Bangladesh to win anything on this tour but if they can keep doing what they did on NZ tour and this one-dayer, It would be a step in the right direction.

Bangladesh got a thorough hiding yesterday , Smith on his return
hitting a half century. The day belonged to Hashim Amla though , who
savaged the visitor's attack with a fine 140. All's not well in
the SA attack - every seamer bowled plenty of dross , none more so than
Morne Morkel who send down 18 wides !!!
That suggests
that the attack just wasn't switched on after seeing the batters wrack
up 350+ - simply put , they weren't very professional.

Bad news for SA the match has been abandoned without a ball bowled.

A complete waste of time tossing for the 1st test as the visitors won
it and elected to bowl first! Bloemfontein is a batting paradise
, I expect to see SA bat until tea tomorrow and be home well before
Sunday morning.
The crowd should match those seen at the India/Australia tests.

Riveting stuff. 154-1 after McKenzie got bored and went
home. Surprisingly , the pitch has some life in it but
unfortunately for Ashraful he hasn't anyone to exploit it. Steyn
, Ntini and Morkel will have some fun , come the final session tomorrow.

Bangladesh really need some help. As bad as the West Indies are, I'm dead positive they'd still hand them this kind of licking! They need to play 4 day games against first class teams and until they start competing with them, leave them away from test cricket.

299-1 at stumps - now tell me Bangladesh deserve to be there. Just a
question of will Smith and Amla chuck it away to allow their teammates
a hit ? It's the only way I see the likes of Prince and De
Villiers playing any cricket before the inevitable declaration.

Bangladesh in quite a mess at the moment where they are currently at 59-5. An innings defeat is at hand here!

153 all out and 20/1 following on. Rattled by the pacers! I think the ICC need to think about this seriously now. Bangladesh are simply a disgrace to international cricket now!

They are following on, i can't say much but please give them some time. there were times in 1996 when IND were bowled out for scores of 66, 110 72 etc.. in RSA. thats how tough it is to tour there, it doesn't mean IND were not a good team then. in 2002 PAK were bowled out for scores like 52, 70, 100 etc against AUS, that doesn't mean they were a bad team then.
they are the best among the minnows and only the best can be given exposure so that they can improve, what else should they do??? keep playing against the other minnows and keep winning without improving??? i don't undertstand the logic at all.

Sam, a tour of Australia to play all the State teams there would do them a whole lot more good than getting their confidence shattered pratically every game they play. Those State sides are quality and it should be a good experience for them with less pressure. Play some 4 day games man!

absolutely, i agree on that, but why blame the ICC then? will CA or BCCI or any other board invite BAN for such tours? i don't think the ICC can do anything about it.

It's like leaving a five year old home in a wooden house with candles and when one gets knocked over, we ask why blame the parents? If the ICC take the test status away, Bangladesh then know they will have to improve their cricket if they want to get it back so they'll try more things to improve and maybe their board will start sending off some A team tours.

I disagree with you SW by doing that even more players will join ICL and Bangladeshi might never recover if that happens.
