I have only played that type of delivery one time so am definatly no expert on it but I just stepped back exposing my stumps i suppose but it gave me the room to straight drive the ball without the risk of being out.

Have a deep breath when going out to bat. Tell yourself you can do it and try not to shake or anything when at the crease. Always watch the ball out of the hands. Just swing at the ball real hard as well. Any edge and its over the top and your safe for sure !

Thats why there is the on drive and the flick shot ! Watch mark waugh ! A genius of the legs !!

Just simply lean over the ball and angle the bat through mid wicket. As simple as that !!

Okay, firstly, memorise the fielding positions and where each man is located and aim for the gaps in the field, or you can just go over the top, but the best thing to do is play straight. Don't be intimidated by the fielders, just play your shots without the fear of getting out.

Guys,

I have a problem in driving on the up. I go forward to reach the line of the ball and my head falls back as if i am rocking back when i go for the shot. This makes me not transferring weight on the front foot instead the weight stays on back foot.

Any suggestions?

Bring your weight forward and make sure your head is straight. Your head shouldn't be moving, it should be still.

Just got more news today that the Under 16's Rep Coach is David Gibson, a former Surrey County Cricket Player.

Ahhh ! So there is one on here like me. I bat like that as well so thats why I don't drive much on the up.

Anyhow, your backlift is real high and thats the reason why your weight isn't forward but high backlifts aren't bad you know cause lara and morton do have high backlift but you have to hit with real power if you want to bat that way cause they mostly get the edges.

Hmm... High backlift eh??

I think I got the problem. I stand a bit like tresco (though right hand bat). I look funny while driving. People will think i am slogging on back foot rather than trying hardly to drive.

Probably i should lower my bat when i go forward.

Okay mate, now you made it clearer. I now know I don't bat like you .

Anyhow, When your foot ain't moving, when the ball is up there, you will most of the times drive it on the up and look like your on the backfoot and yes, the backlift will mostly be high for those kind of batsman too.

Start moving your foot mate !!!

Probably this is due to my preseason practice in my garage. I always hang a ball sling and hit it. This way you always go on the backfoot while trying to drive (to avoid the string hitting your head or strangling you neck )

I should change the practise way this winter!!

Anybody!! any thoughts (dont say go to indoor nets... I mean apart from that!!)

I hang a ball to the string and do that but I get into my actual backlift and movement and play the ball on its merits, instead of just standing there and driving it.

I got good news too, this week is going to be all Sunny, good weather for my Rep Trials and Club Training.

I love the summer. If it rains during the cricket season, I get angry.

Came back from the nets just then with my dad. I got him to chuck me some cricket balls as fast as he could and I was solid in attack and defence. Cracking Drives down the ground for four. Beautiful flicks off the pads for four, but I've been told I expose my leg stump when i move across and thats something I need to fix at this Friday's Training Session.

Great news is, I still have awesome timing, I just need to tap the ball and it'll rush to the boundary.

lead,

is your elbow getting high? Aren't you driving the ball straight even when the shot on the call is a cover drive?

one problem for me is my leg side shots. not the shots on my pads but just outside them. i always tend to pop it up in the air, expsecially while lgihtly playing it to a close square leg fieldsmen.

any tips? is it my wrists? my brain?

by the way i cant leave the ball, cos it isn't a wide, and i need runs Very funny.

Try and get the ball finer, just a little tap will get it fine and to the boundary.

Came back from training, I did ok, but I'm not completely satisfied.

I bat on legstump for spinners. But the different is I am righthanded and I mostly play against legspin and hardly play offspin. I am a matser of playing leg spin. I scores the majority of my runs throught midoff and cover. I Play as straight as an arrow against spinners.

This is how I play leg spin, Anything pitch up or on a length that I can hit it on the up I used the drive. Anything Short is pullshot or cut shot. My cut shot mostly end up in front of point not backward point, maybe I am playing the shot too early.

August 16th 2009, my team Youth Combine was crowned CHAMPION once more

I would guess that you are playing it too early. Off spin can be negotiated by getting to the pitch. As long as you do that, a finger spinner usually cannot generate the turn to do something major. But whatever you do, don't hit across the line. I face so much off spin it's boring.

Off spin is cake for me. I have faced them a lot and I have put some good damage on them too. I sweep off spinners a lot and successfully too and I use the booming drive on the up over covers as well for those who can't turn it much and the good lenght stuff, I defend them and because I can flick the ball so majestically, I do that and annoy them.

I asked my friend to see how much my arm bends when I bowl the doosra, he said it doesn't bend much. I was suprised when I heard this, it didn't straighten enough to go over 15 Degrees.

I think you should open the face of the blade alot more so the ball flies off the bat down to third man.

I had Rep Trials yesterday and I have no idea if I've made it in, we have another training session on the 8th of October, but I batted well against the Express Fast Bowlers, only got out once to a ball that bounced and kept really low, other then that, the coach said I batted well and asked which position I usually bat at.

I bowled well too, got two people out with my pace bowling. Both edges and would've been taken cleanely by the wicket keeper. One wicket was where he was batting and played late and got an edge straight to the keeper. The other one was where this guy tried to cut at it and got a feint bottom edge.

I like my chances of making into this Under 16's Squad. I got some tips with my bowling runup too, it's made my bowling more accurate, too.
