Leaning over isn't something abnormal! After all, one of the most elegant batsman around leans over a lot! I don't know if it is the samething I think you mean but yousuf does like lean forward and it works sometimes and sometimes it don't but that shows that you watch the ball hard and that's why Yousuf do go forward like that.

Leaning forward is fine, as it will make you get right over the ball when driving with your wright going forward, and will allow you to pick the short ball up easier if you're in a lower position.
The problem i have however, is my head is regularly positioned outside the line of the ball, so i have a tendency to work straight balls to leg. |

I've really been struggling against fast left-arm over the wicket bowlers - I don't seem to be able to get myself in line, or even get anywhere near comfortable.
I feel like I should adjust my stance, but am slightly lost as to how far I should turn myself around. Any tips about how I can rectify this and what sorts of shots should I be avoiding/trying to concentrate on? |

Against left arm over bowlers I tend to move my frint foot out a little which opens up my stance and works okay.
Most lefties have the ability to bring the ball back into the right hander which makes driving the ball on the off side or even straight run the risk of you being "gated", particularly if your footwork isn't sharp. If you are confident off your legs then it would be safer getting a good stride then working the ball with the swing to leg. Just make sure the bowler doesn't have the ball that goes the other way in his armoury. |

When you say out, do you mean out so it's still in line with your back foot but slightly behind, or out at an angle?
The second part of what you said makes sense - I'm usually okay off my legs, I'll give it a go. |

slightly behind the back foot to open up the hips to the line from where the ball is coming

I have had my problems with them too! When they bowl close to your body, you can't cut and you can't flick it away to the leg side as the ball angles away. I don't mind facing the swing coming back into my pads as I am great off my pads! It's an area I need help on.

If you're going to flick the ball make sure you don't miss or you might be out lbw! I think if you're having problems with the Left Arm Over the wicket bowlers, you should generally play the ball through mid off through to the covers if its an angled ball or a wide one.
If he's swinging the ball into your body then you should watch the ball closely and play with the swing. When I play a Left Arm over the wicket bowler, I usually play the ball that is angled towards the slips, I play it through the mid off region and if it's swinging in, well I play with the swing. Just work on playing the bowler accordingly and it will cement into your subconcsious mind. |

the other easy thing to do is change your stance slightly make it open, depending on your comfort and makes life so easier, if you are one of those guys who can cope with change of stance, any way that is what i do.

hi guys, Everytime i go out to bat i start to feel
very tired and i start to get a terrible backache. Any idea why i may experiencing this? Is it because my bat is too heavy? I doubt this because the bat i use is pretty light( By the way it is a stanford) |

I think that's just nervousness. Try and read a magazine or something similar before going out to bat.

Get your front foot closer to the pitch of the ball. You're problem could be just poor foot movement, attitude towards fast bowlers (eg, scared of being hit by the ball etc). Don't feel negative, always be positive towards the fast bowler, or any bowler.

To pickup the short ball i'd suggest watching the bowlers arm as much as possible if it goes lower before release then its going to be shorter, as for hitting it, it depends where its aimed.

If you're batting is a sweak as you say it is, I wouldn't worry about the short ones now, the most constructive thing you can do is work very hard on getting a good solid technique on the front foot, so you can block block block and drive a few into the V, hopefully supporting a batsman at the other end which is the tail's primary role. I think this is much more useful than trying to become an all-round batsman just yet

Ok I am now hitting the magority of the balls and middling about ten percent so there is vast improvement however, today something happened at the nets that really annoyed me I was clean bowled three balls in a row.
What annoyed me most is that they were all the same delivery the batsman worst nightmare an inswing yorker. So basicallu how do you keep yorkers out?
Thanks.

Dig them out and play it with a dead bat.

Just glance it. All you need as a little bit of bat on it and the ball will race towards the fine leg boundary, the key is to use the bowlers pace for this shot.

That's for you to find out man! I don't think anyone but you yourself can help yourself. It's not a technical flaw but a mental one! Try to hit the bad balls and not the gems!

Playing leg spinners. Best advice I can give you is to play with soft hands, a straight bat wherever possible and play with the spin. Knocking it into the gaps will keep the runs ticking over and places more pressure on the bowler.
Then when the pressure is on the bowler one of two things will happen.
1. They'll start to pitch shorter in an attempt to get some dot balls or find an edge. This will give you room to come down the wicket a bit and width to swing your arms through the ball.
2. They'll pitch the same length but wider in an attempt to find an edge. This will give you the width needed to free your arms but does carry an added risk of the edge. Best way to prevent the edge is to drive with the spin and angling the bat down slightly so if it does take an edge it will drop short or may even slide through the slip cordon.
At the moment I am having problems with the cut shot. Could anyone give me any tips?

To play spin, you have to make sure you are not being deceived by flight. If you are, then you're in for real hell!! To play flight, you have to wait and not react as soon as the ball is released or you would be dead forward and the ball is no where near dropping yet.
