Seeing that Cricket Manager thread earlier today reminded me that some people might enjoy playing Battrick - a free cricket management game where you take over a side and a responsible for team selection, net training, youth development and finances too. It is great fun - easy to get into but plenty of depth as well.

You can sign up here - Battrick

I've been playing for a couple of season and will be happy to offer advice to anyone who signs up.

you can pay a small annual fee voluntarily if you wish but it doesn't affect the game in any way shape or form if you do (i.e your team doesn't get any better all of a sudden), it simply makes more stats available to you.

Its so hard to pick your batting line up. You have to take hours to decide who bats first because you dont know who is the best at batting. On your squad list, they mix it up, they put people who's batting is competent in some places and people with mediocre batting in other places. There should be a button, like cricket manager, the button should help re-arrange the batting thing. Meaning, the button should make all the good batman go at the top and bad batsman at the bottom. This should go with bowling as well. I spent hours picking my batting line up

over time you realise the best positions for each player. Also there is a Java tool you can download that helps you sort it all out a bit more easily.

I've just signed up. But I would say cricket manager is definetly a better game than this. In cricket manager, you can rename the players so then you can easily recognise them. In Battrick you cant.

This is harder to get started with but I guarantee you that long term this game is light years ahead of Cricket Manager.

If you want me to take a look at your squad and suggest who you should fire, who would be worth training etc, I'm happy to do so.

I'd me delighted if you did that for me. Thank you. But how do you look at my squad, you don't know my password or do I have to tell you my password.

No, you can C&P the squad and post it here - I know it will be a long post etc but it will help anyone else taking up the game to get a handle on how to evaluate their squad.

First things first - you only really need 14 players in the squad so fire Hogg, Drolkop, Riddell and Whitfield.

Next thing is have a look at the transfer market to see if you can find anyone around 17 or 18 years old with the following capabilities rated at Mediocre or better ideally (if one or two are at Feeble we may still be able to work with them)

Stamina
Batting
Concentration

(These are the 3 most important batting attributes)

Stamina
Bowling
Consistency

(These are the 3 most important bowling attributes)

he's not bad so keep an eye on him but I expect he'll go for quite a high price and I reckon you should be looking for players up to a max of £50k.

Look out for Amith Husni, currently around £4000 who have potential.
