i would say greame smith, jaques kallis and ricky ponting are the best under pressure, all have played their part in saving, or almost saving a test

Rahul Dravid is brilliant under pressure, but can be as exciting as watching paint dry

i go for dravid and inzy. both play slowly in the beginning and then gradually accelerate. they have a lot of patience and a very good cricketing mind. dravid is very stylish but inzy in his own lazy style also can protect his team from defeat. they r the best under pressure. ponting is also very good but dravid and inzy i feel r d best. |

currently the two best batsmen in the world (Dravid & Ponting) are hard to go past in pressure situations, both have differing styles, but are equally as effective. However, neither comes close to the way Steve Waugh performed under pressure! He truly was the iceman, so many times he pulled australia back from the brink, he may not get nearly as much credit as sachin & lara, but he was far and away the best pressure batsman during his time. |

I think Stephen Fleming & Jacob Oram performed well under pressure even though there team loses most of the time.

some could argue that laxman is good under pressure, as he always seemed to score big against good teams like the aussies, but when playing slightly lesser teams, he lost/almost lost his spot in the team

How long have you been talking to yourself?? The comment would've been okay if it was responding to another member's post - to post "yes , good point" to your own is silly and has been deleted. |

Yeah, but he played well against the W.Indies in the last test and there not exactly a long way up the test rankings. I think he just has his ups and downs. |

I say Rahul Dravid, he saved Indian team many times but, latest was when he scored 49 runs in 1st West Indies test match. It was the highest score in that inning. He's best under pressure thats why they call him THE WALL, and Mr. Dependeble.

..he called The Wall because of his rock solid defense - nothing gets past him ! Your description suggests his should be called "Clothes Line" ! |

yeah true! I know what "the wall" means but by no means is dravid a boycott. Dravid is solid in defence but will hit boundaries without seemingly taking risks |

Fair comment TCA , Dravid , to me is a "proper" test cricketer. He wouldn't have been out of place 50 years ago before the advent of the one day game. He knows where his off stump is and plays straight!
...pity he's not English!!

Is that how you people treat good cricketers? or because of his slow batting.

Clobs was just kidding. The English selectors nowadays are solid and recognise class when they see it. Rahul Dravid oozes it and even if he failed in his first few matches , they'd have persevered with him. I think players with Dravid's calmness and ability bring out the best in the batsmen around him. He looks so in control and unrattled that that settles the guy at the other end. The rate at which he scores is EXACTLY what he's asked to do. He cements the entire innings - Sehweg blazes , Dravid accumalates. If you asked all other countries skippers who's the prize wicket in the Indian innings , I pretty sure they'd go with Dravid. |

Agreed sledg, the last 3/4 years i've always hoped that we could get dravid out early, i always felt you had a chance with the rest of their batting even if they were set, whereas dravid is as his nickname suggests, "The Rock". That being said, i still think steve waugh was, and is the greatest batsmen under pressure, he wasn't given the tag of "The Iceman" for nothing. I think it's fair to say you pom's were never satisfied until steve was dismissed eh sledg

His record against England was nothing short of brilliant. Amazingly , he was much more prolific a scorer in England than in Oz - but he was pretty solid there too! Yes Claps , watching S.Waugh walk to the wicket was very daunting and I got VERY tired of watching him slash all our bowlers through point!! In that era , Booney got on my nerves too!! |

With Steve Waugh it wasn't so much the volume of runs, more that he ALWAYS got them out of a crisis. Whenever England had them 80 for 5, you could bet your house of Waugh making a ton, usually with Healy's support
