"reasonably good swashbuckling batsman" hmmm i think kaushal is much more than reasonable batsmen. he's a class batsmen like Mahela jayawardane and great Aravinda de silva. and surprising to see him not with the sri lanken test team. because he is mils ahead of Prasanna jayawardane as a batsmen as well as wicket keeper. |

I would still say Sangakarra in all time. Much better technique and with him, SL look a whole different team. Look at the difference he made in second test.
But I will talk only in stats with you and only tests stats: Sangakarra Average: 55.74 100's: 15 Gilly Avg: 49.27 100's: 17 Sanga is still 6 yrs younger. Plus Gilly comes way down the order when Australia most of the times are in strong position. |

He wasn't wicket keeper in that match so it isn't a valid example. It is worth noting that Sanga's overall average is inflated by the fact that he has played 20 Tests where he hasn't kept, and in those his average (an extremely impressive) 92, compared to 42 when he has the gloves on. |

The decision to bring in Jayawardene and allow Sangakarra to play
solely as a batsman was well thought out and those impressive stats
confirm it.

Sangakarra and Gilchrist are entirely different batsman, so it's hard to compare- depending on the make-up of my team, depends on who I'd choose; for example, he fits perfectly into the Australian set-up. |

I hope people will now start to consider him a great as his average and recent feats suggest such labelling.

I dont think we can any longer mark him as a wicket keeper batsman as he doesnt keep wickets no more. If we exclude him, i find Andy Flower the best

Im pretty sure he isn't currently playing, abbasi.
But, if you mean in the history of cricket then I might have to concur.

I think Ian Healy was the best keeper, but Gilly is the best keeper batsman.

hard to say with Dujon really since he didn't have many opportunities to show if he was much good standing up at the stumps

he was made to look good by those around him- NZ made him look average with a bit of thinking. He's half the batsman Mark Waugh and Hussey are.
