You've missed a lot of his great innings haven't you?

Oh, I remember one! Wi vs PAK in the VB series in 2004. Lara made a blistering 153 - I think - against PAK and that won the match pretty well for them. Watching Lara launching the bowlers over covers for six was magnificent! Fantastic knock it was.

I think the top 5 highest scoring ODI innings are the best. Especially Richards, that was probably the best.

laras 153 does not deserved to be in that list,as the track was very good for batting and the bowling attack was ordinary too.the innings that he played against SA (2003 world cup)is the best ever innings one will see.when lara came in to bat the score was 7 for 2 in 6.4 overs and the bowl was moving around quite a lot.after 21 overs the score was 50 for 2.and to reach 278 from there needed an innings like that to be played.lara scored 116 from 181 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes.windies won that match by a narrow margin of 3 runs and lara was the man of the match that day.considering the bowling attack and the pressure, this is the best innings one wiil see.

What! You can't be serious! No innings against those minnows should never be taken that seriously!

That must be  a wrong un!!! Best innings are classed on situations, pitch coditions and the quality of the oppositions.

Vivs 189 was amazng

Inzy's innings in the 1992 semi final won the game from no where

Anwars world record 194 was amazing to watch, he took Kumble to the
cleaners.

pontings knock in the 03 worlc cup final won the game the cup for auss, batted india right out of it.

Many of Laras knocks are always entertaining as are sachins, i remember so brilliant tons agaings auss, he single handedly won the games against them. Hammering, Warne, Mcgrath and co.

I was there and it wasn't close to the best knock I've seen in one day cricket. You fail to mention that the Windies batted first in brilliant sunshine and the pitch held no demons whatsoever - there wasn't a blade of grass on that track!
South Africa eventually lost by just 3 runs , under lights and the ball was swinging wildly! Lara's knock wasn't even the best in that match , Lance Klusener almost got SA home before being caught on the fence - now he played some finne knocks in his time.

True Sledger and it's a shame he had to go before his time. He played some real magnificent innings for the proteas and more so in the 99 WC. SA were penalized 1 over in that match too and that's why you could say they lost by the 3 runs. Klusener just took Gayle to the cleaners in just one over and changed back the whole match.

And Zimbabwe as a team at that time wasn't that bad either. Some time back in the past they used to be a better one day side.

Mark Waugh's 173 vs West Indies 2000/01 series 2nd Final. Always a pleasure to watch him play but this was certainly his best knock and still the Highest ODI score ever posted by an Australian!

Good to see we agree on something Tonks007, I remember that innings right in the middle of the bribery allegations.

Live?  Jayasuriya's 152, off a mere 99 balls at Headingley July 2006. He brutally assaulted England through cover and the arc between backward square leg and mid-on.
When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

Might as well add my 5c

Chris Cairns 102* (99)
NZL vs RSA
VB Series 2001/02

Absolute stunner. NZL chasing 242 at the GABBA. Cairnsy comes in at 73-4 in the 19th over. NZL in all sorts of trouble. Cairnsy times his attack perfectly. Hits 9 4s and 3 6s. Even Bill Lawry couldn't contain himself.
NZL wins with 5 balls to spare

Thanks for bringing up Cairns mate! A very fine player he was and to me, he would make anyside of today; even Aussie. A much better all rounder than Symonds! Cairns had a wicked slower ball - it had even the greatest in trouble. His batting was a sight to behold too. Very lusty hitting! Simply one of the greatest for the Kiwi and probably the best after Hadlee and Crowe.

I totally agree. Cairns in full flight was one of the best all rounders of the last twenty years. He would have made any side in that era for sure!

Also add to that the 102* by Cairns in the ICC Knockout Final 2000/2001.
Talk about an innings under pressure

ICC Champions Trophy Finals 2004....between Eng and the West Indies. It was a nailing biting match....the game swung so many times you just could not be sure of the end result and in the end it was the result that I wanted !!!!

the match  was  2004  bw Pakistan and Austrailia and it happened in England  - Pakistan lost first four wickets under 50 runs but due to Inzimam and Yousuf  partnership that brough up almost 200 runs  partnership which needed to chase  257 or 260 above --- somehow they got dismissed and Austrailia won by 10 runs -

@ it was abt 2002  which the series bw Pakistan  vs  Austrailia and it happened in Austrailia -- With the help of Imran Nazir ( 60) and and Yousuf ( above 84) and Wasim Akram ened up with 50 in last overs against Mcgrath . Pakistan won by 164 runs against Australia with the help of Shoaib Akhtar who took 4 wickets
