Two of my heroes Titan and I've seen both at 1st hand. Botham was terrific and a fantastic cricketer , but I think Flintoff is immense!
I don't say that lightly either , it's just that Freddie has done it against all opposition. Botham never inspired England against the mighty West Indies and his record was poor against them. Australia weren't the power we see today in the 80's - Packer and Ali Bacher made sure of that - but the Windies were at full strength. As hard as Beefy tried he never mastered their attack as a batsman at all , although his bowling was still potent.
Flintoff is still young and having seen him today driving England on against Pakistan , I have to say he's a colossus , just the best cricketer in the world today. As great as Botham was , he wasn't that reveered in the cricket world at that time except in England.
I feel sad , it's hit me that Beefy wasn't the greatest!!

Very good points, Botham also did not play against SA! I think many do not know just how a great team SA could have produced during the 70's and 80's if it was not for politics!!
Greame Pollock
Barry Richards
Clive Rice
Peter Kirsten
Mike Proctor
Eddie Barlow
Garth Le Roux
and many more greats!!!maybe even Alan Lamb and Robin Smith.

Great players all , but I think Beefy would have been well liked in SA too Titan ! Remember he didn't debut for England until 1977 and peaked in the early to late 80's , Eddie would've been past his sell-by-date by then !
Interestingly , Lamb and Smith would have definitely been Springboks though !!
I'd have loved to see Botham bowling to Jeeps and Richards in a test....mouth watering stuff !!

i have never seen botham in action but i have seen flintoff and i have read about botham. botham was a great cricketer. i read a book and there is a list of the 12 best cricketers and he is one of them.
but i went with flintoff because he has proven himself against the best opposition, australia and botham on the other hand didn't prove himself (as sledger said) against WI, the best team of bothams time.

It seems I've been vindicated , just this afternoon the greatest allrounder Sir Garry Sobers agrees that Flintoff is a better player than Beefy......great minds think alike !!

If Sobers said it, there is no doubt that it is true. flintoff is better than botham.

I agree with barmyarmy; it's too early to say. Mind you, I have a sneaky suspicion that Freddie will ultimately prove himself better.

That's right swerve , an awful shot when he just had to bat sensibly. He's definitely happier against the seamers , Kaneria gave him problems.
