We entered into the League matches season 2006- 2007. The Mian league has started and out of 3 matches we won one and lost two, it is really disturbing and putting pressure on our team mates.
The League matches are of 40 Overs each inning. We used to play 20 Over matches and now we are getting out in 25-30 overs all team.
We need to be consistance . Please advise what stregtegy should we apply here.

There's nothing technical you can be taught about something like this, it's just something you pick up from experience. It's about shot selection, learning to not play stupid shots and give wickets away early - there's plenty of time for that later on! Thing is, even by the standards of amateur cricket 40 overs is really quite short so it's important not to over-compensate and end up without enough runs but its vital you bat all the overs or you've wasted a portion of your time. Look to keep AT LEAST 8 wickets in hand by the halfway stage, preferably 9 or all of them, btu remember you still do have to play your shots in this period so you don't end up behind a reasonable runrate. After that you want hitters coming out and opening the shoulders a bit, but even so they need to play themselves in unless its the last 3 or 4 overs. Losing your wicket trying to slog one, even a bad ball, in the first over, is a complete waste of all the runs you could have contributed
EDIT I don't know what standard or what sort of pitches you're playing on, what tends to be a decent score in your league and what are you lot normally getting? Edited by Chin Music - 22 November 2006 at 1:33pm |

Well, The matches are being played on Cemented pitch. The decent score is 300 runs in 40 Overs, We won one with 278 but all out in 34 overs.
The losing one are 234-all out and 90-all out we were never been able to reach 40 overs so far.

Basically all you have to do is survive the first 8-10 overs against the decent bowlers then open up gradually till 20-25 overs then really get into it. You usually find that once the two opening bowlers are gone, the rest of the bowlers make up the numbers.

as a change bowler i have to say... oi you no!
But other than that its sound advice. You have to be in the middle to score runs... not all back in the hut

I agree with getting rid of the openers. Its very common for the team's best two bowlers to open.
