I'd say a:

Bat - £90+
Pads - £30+
Gloves - £25+
Helmet - £25+
Whites - 15+
Box - £3+
Thigh Guard - £10+
Spikes - £30+

They're the most important I'd say, however if it's your first season can you use your clubs  kit, as you may not enjoy cricket and may have shelled out a lot of money.

For bats I prefer a custom made, these are now as cheap as £95 for a fully custom in SH

I'd also try and visit a shop, try pads and gloves on and choose the most comfortable. I've included prices, try and look for prices around that mark as that should get you a decent standard of stuff, also look on some websites as they do "kits" with pads, gloves and bats inc.

Hope this helps

I would definately advise to go to a shop to try all of your gear on to make sure everything fits in the right places etc. If you're not sure if cricket is going to be your game I would recommend not spending a massive amount on gear. Just in case you don't want to be wasting a lot of money if you only play for a week or something?

I don't know how much my whites cost but my bat cost £125, my helmet cost £25, my gloves cost about the same I think and my pads cost about £40. I also bought those shorts which you put you box and your thigh pads in which cost a tenner. Spikes can range from £20 - £60.

I've always said buy the best you can afford, if thats a £50 bat then go for it but bear in mind you get what you pay for

It depends what level you are, if you are a high level then you should get an elbow guard. I just spent £105 on a bat and its an absolute corker.

Yeah definately an arm guard if the standard is of a good one.

I also understand what you're sayin about bats, James Cornford a pro I know is currently using one of the £95 Fusion G4 bats. 6 grains but goes as well as any bats he's had before!

Here's a pic of it, looks nothing special but performance not looks is often the key. When buying take a bat mallet or ball round with you and test the "ping" of each bat, often good quality bats are available in lower ranges

I spent £175 on my bat, £45 on my gloves, £65 on my pads and about £36 on my whites and trust me girls whites are a nightmare to find! I don't wear a helmet or a box so can't help you there. You don't realistically have to spend half as much as i did but remember, you get what you pay for!
