Thankyou for responding to my post. I agree that rating systems are hard and I haven't attempted to do one for the test players as there are so many factors that the raw statistics just do not provide. However, I agree that the LG ICC (ex-PWC) ratings is the better system.

Damien Martyn is one very under rated player. He is a fantastic batsman and can score runs in dead pitches and very pressurised situations. He has scored 3 centuries in 4 matches in the sub continent after his team was trailing on  first innings. This shows that he could bat in pressure cooker situations.I too just cannot understand these ratings and I never go by them. The LG ICC ratings are more accurate.

Yeah these ratings on cricketworld are somewhat flawed actually. I have access to some more accurate (no offence to those who compilethe MVP for cricketworld) ratings that are kept private and they basically have the status of Test batsmen ratings as: (after the second Test between South Africa and the west Indies):

 1. Jaques Kallis
 2. Brian Lara
 3. Damien Martyn
 4. Virendher Sehwag
 5. Justin Langer
 6. Adam Gilchrist
 7. Rahul Dravid
 8. Hamish Marshall
 9. Ricky Ponting
10. Graeme Smith

I think those are somehwhat accurate and those are compiled by a ratings company that the ICC uses the service of but keeps the identity of hidden. They also have their own service provided by ProceWaterHouseCoopers (PwC which is their London Stock Exchange listing) which are usually fairly similar and in tandom with the ratings provided by ______________ ______.

I would agree that Damien has been in the form of his life but you do also have to understand that these things are incredibly difficult to compile and i myself have a formulatic equation of my own that i use to compile my own ratings and it is very complicated and perplex to understand and to be honest of all the ratings systems i think it may well be the most accurate of the lot. My system has already incidently already provided the latest ratings which have already accounted for the entire South Africa - West Indies series and funnily enough even though you may say that you can't prophesise what has already taken place in the series and can't include it and so on it is actually a much more accurate system on the whole.

Could you please explain why Damien Martyn is so low in your ratings considering the quality of his performances in the last 12+ months? With the runs he has scored and the man-of-the-match efforts your rating system seems flawed. Any clarification you could give would be appreciated.
