Are there any players who got left out of international cricket without ever being given a proper chance? If so then name them here.

My first thought was Stuart Law, does anyone know why he was dropped after he made 54*?

Well seeing at that match looked like a batting track and the Aussies hit over 600 I imagine he was just there filling in for someone.

Aftab Habib was treated appallingly by England - given just THREE innings to prove himself them unceremoniously dumped forever at the age of 27 and his career never recovered

England do this a lot. They saw the Aussies finding Warne at 22 with a few first class matches under his belt so they think everything they can do we can do better and go searching for the next Bradman and whenever they play poorly they dump them. Theyve ruined countless careers and it annoys me. Look at Tim Bresnan, I doubt if he will get a second chance.

Hampshire (my county) suffer more than most at having players drafted into the England set up and then unceremoniously dumped, immediately springing to mind;

Mark Nicholas (would have been the  Vaughn of his era)
Chris Smith
Paul Terry - dropped after his second test and never played again, nice way to treat a guy who batted with a broken arm

Others?  Well Andy Lloyd can count himself particularly harshly treated - his only Test was versus West Indies in June, 1984. After making 10 runs, he was hit on the head by Malcolm Marshall. Despite wearing a helmet, Lloyd spent several days in hospital, and played no further cricket in 1984. He never played for England again.

Neil Mallender - made his Test debut in 1992, in the home series against Pakistan. Selected for the 4th Test on a dubious pitch under overcast skies at Headingley in July 1992. He returned 5-50 in the second innings and 8-122 in the match and to help England to square the series 1-1.  Played one more test in which he performed well, then was dropped.

Warren Hegg - great keeper, but suffered from Alec Stewart's domination of the gloves as a batsman/non-specialist keeper.

When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

M. Slater such a fine batsmen, not given a chance in ODI, infact I felt the same for Langer too, such prolific never considered ODi stuff by ausies.
Similarly I felt Micheal Baevan was a very very good batsmen, never included in test matches!
so far so good!

I personally feel that the Sri Lankan spinner Dinuka Hettiarachchi has been extremely unlucky. He has world class potential but has been forced to live in the shadow of Murali, he was given one test match against England in 2001 where he took match figures of 2-41 at an economy rate of 1.51. His first-class, domestic one-day and Twenty20 stats are nothing but outstanding, he should be in the national side for Sri Lanka and thoroughly deserves to be, but hasn't been given the chances in the SL side, probably because of Murali's dominance but would it be different if Murali didn't play, surely.

But even with Murali in the Sri Lankan side, surely this guy should have been given the chance as a second spinner when Sri Lanka needed one. For sure his batting isn't up to much but Sri Lankan could've turned this player into a world class spinner and they ignored him. Just look at his stats here:

Dinuka Hettiarachchi

Sri Lanka

Wow!!! imagine him bowling in tandem with Murali! Thats disgraceful how he's not been given more chances. He is unbelievable at 2020!!!!!! Look at his economy rate, that is mind boggling. Has anyone ever seen him bowl?

I would have to disagree with you on that one mate. Widely recognised as Australia's best ever ODI batsman and a player with a 1st class batting average of over 57,  I dont think that he was given a good enough chance at the Test level by the selectors. He got lumbered with the responsibility of being an all-rounder (I remember he even got picked as the 4th bowler in a number of tests!) and I think that affected his batting....not to mention that he ended up not out on 80+ after running out of partners a couple of times!

Bevan was a great player of spin...and I still claim that his non-selection in the Test team to go to India, cost the Aussies (and Steve Waugh) the series there.

Still....if the selectors wanted him as an all-rounder, then I think he still justified his position with his batting average of 29....and a bowling average of 24! in his 18 tests.

Sad thing was that not only the selectors didn't give him a fair go at Test level...but in the end they screwed him as far as the ODI's went as well. He deserved better!

P.S. This Sri Lankan spinner's (Hettiarachchi) stats look pretty good, dont they?...Clap. Whats he done to upset the selectors? Sri Lanka plays 2 spinners on a regular basis at home and other sub-continent countries...so the question has to be asked how come he hasn't been partnered up with Murali for more than his 1 Test?

I do vaguely remember seeing him play in that test a while back, and I remember him causing the England batsmen quite a bit of trouble. And how owuldn't he be any good if he averages 16.71 at domestic one-day level, 21.50 at first-class level and under 10 at Twenty20 level. Plus his one-day strike rate is 25, in an ODI that would get you more than two wickets a match. Surely when Murali retires he ought to be given another chance.

He is back in the business, as the captain wants him as a bowling coach, infact the initial decision to restrict him was taken by PCB, but has been reversed. I think Mushy with his experience and attitude , is a great character in pakistan camp.

Justin Ontong a super athlete in the field, a good batsman and a tidy off-spin bowler. Always thought he deserved another chance so too with Albie Morkel in the one day arena he would suit the 20/20 team very well with his big hitting and handy medium-fast pacers.

He's not been completely denied yet but I have a feeling Brad Hodge won't play another test match for Australia. I pray I am wrong.
