Hi guys me again I just wanted to ask if any of you guys have short-sightedness? Its a real problem for me trying to judge the line and length early on which in turn, affects my batting ability alot. Wearing glasses is not a option because the can easily snap so I guess the only option would be is to wear contact lenses. Im 14 so I don't know if I can wear them.

See a optician, they're much more qualified to tell you if your suitable to wear contacts that anyone here. You will see Vettori wearing glasses, though i think only when he bats. I can guarantee though that they will have special glass/plastic lenses that won't shatter into many small pieces.

Yeah, you should definitely get that looked at as playing cricket with short-sightedness could get ugly!

Coincidently I'm going to the optometrist tommorow. I didn't think eyesight made much of difference. Didn't Bradman have below average eyesight?

I have a mate thats shortsighted, it really did effect his game/batting. He got contacts......though he forgot them half the time. For fielding you really do need contacts. a) its easy to break glasses diving etc, or b) if you don't wear glasses fielding those last few metres when the ball comes to you it is more difficult to judge when to try pick up and throw.

Yes you can wear contact lenses at 14 but it depends on your eyes not everyone can wear contacts. Glasses are an option you just need to make sure the careful and always wear a helmet when batting.
Laser surgery can only be performed once your eyesight is stable and therefore your much too young for that.

Turns out I too am short sighted but only in my right eye. Like I said it doesn't make a difference in my batting but in your case I would definately get it checked out. |
