Adam gilchrist is all set to retire after world cup.

A dangerous batsman with a very good work behind the stumps. The only wicketkeeper who came not only close but almost eclipsed during twilight of gilchrist era was MS Dhoni . Still early days  for MSD , but whatever he has achieved in so little period is commanding. He plays blinder of innings, can change gears , can play the waiting game when required by the team.

MSD's work behind stumps started a bit shoddy , but has improved leaps and bounds and is pretty good at the moment. No wicketkeeper has averaged as much as MSD or played so many match winning innings in comparision to him after MSD's advent to ODI's.He has left rest of wicketkeepers behind him by a long distance already.

It would be foolish to say that MSD is greater than Gilchrist , but it would be right to say future gilchrist has come.

Dhoni hasn't made any great scores outside the subcontinant. He'll have to prove himself outside the subcontinant to even come near Gilchrist.
"His classical hits down the ground, met with a checked drive, were Tendulkar at his best. It was though he had a new lease of life." - Sachin Tendulkar's return to cricket with a 91-Ball century.

yes majority of his games have been in sub-continent,but wasen't he the best of indian batsman in south africa tour?Neither did he play badly in WI or Zim either when he toured overseas.Just because he has not played at some part of the world more we can't say that he  dosent come near to gilchrist.

He has played more than 60 matches and his strike rates and averages are very much better than gilchrist's , even he holds highest runs by a wicketkeeper.

well actually you can to be fair - Gilchrist has produced everywhere he has played, Dhoni has only been around for 5 minutes so has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath

Dhoni may be good, but Sangakkara is already probably better than Ghilchrist and will probably inherit the title of best wicket keeper batsman around

I'll say one word on the matter - Alec Stewart
When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

You witty gits. LOL

Anyways slogger, Sangakkara can't be put into this catergory as the future gilchrist means one who can keep and bludgeon the ball all over the park! Kumar is more mister reliable!
