It seems the only way to get into the Australian squad is if you go to some kind of cricket academy.

Yea but I think it would be most difficlut to get into a international team in the sub-continent. There are so many people and so much talent that there will always be someone better then yourself.
But getting into the Canadian team is a peice of cake Edited by abubakar52 |

Where are you going to find a good coach in Canada? and you wouldn't know if you were good or not with the lack of competition |

"Lack of comepitetion" is the main thing as you know the Canadian team does not have many players but there a lot of people who play cricket here. But do not wish to get into team. Which gives the few who would like to get into the team a beter chance.

i think in south africa and Australia this isn't true, as they both have the link between ameteur and proffesional cricket, i.e. if you play really well at club, you could get into the state/provincial 2nds, then could get into the 1sts, and guess where the national team is selected from? the first class circuit!(this is one of the problems england is trying to fix, as they get so many good club players that could have been more, but were late bloomers and are stuck as ameteurs! i think acamdemies are there for the lads who look like they will definately get there and are trying to fast track them into the national team, but as aus is showing, you dont have to be young to do well, e.g. strauss, hussey and im sure you guys can mention more, basically i think best is to enjoy the game, but for someone like me to enjoy the game i have to be in the best team i can, and scoring runs, and if you do well enough, you will eventually get there! i was discussing this with my dad, and he basically said score loads of runs and you will get noticed, unless your quite old, he said think if brian lara turned up at your club and no-one knew about him, it wouldnt be long until he got noticed cuase he would probs score loads of runs! |

I was rejected by warwickshire along with my mates on a number of occasions, what was hurtful was that when we turned up for trials, it would appear the sqaud had already been chosen, most of the kids being from affluent backgrounds, as when we were batting and bowling...none of the coaches would bother to look at us. yet ive played for Birmingham Schools with success and have been scoring almost a thousand runs for my club's 1st team since i was 17 in a very competetive league, which included many well known players who were seeking experince, these included: Marlon Black: West Indies, Taufeeq Umar: pakistan, Trevor Penny: Warwickshire, yasar Arafat and Yasir Hameed Pak and i also played against the Pak Team before the world cup 1999 in a Charity match in which i Scored 21 against Shoaib, Wasim and Mushtaq, Razzaq and Azhar ( Waqar, Saqlain and Youhana were on our side to make it more competative).
All il say is there are so many excellent naturally gifted asian players in Birmingham, but Counties do not give them a chance! Kabir and Kadeer had to leave a county side because of lack of oppertunities! Edited by inzamam329 |

pls mate dont say asian lads dont get enough opportunities! look how many are currently playing in the county teams! all i have found is that there are many kids that dont get opportunities, but the only thing you can do is get over it and keep working hard! whilst a coach can look at you in the nets (if he even looks at you as you said!) he cant argue with stats! (ps are you playing in the birmgham league? |

crick is absolutely correct - if a player is good enough he'll make it one way or another, if he isn't he won't, so don't try attribute some other sinister reason to it

What exactly are you trying to say? That the selectors are rascist? Becasue if that is it you're absolutely wrong how can they be racist see how they are treating Monty. and If a player is good he will make it if the asian players perform bad they cant keep them in on the basis that they will be accused of rascism by people like you. How could you even think such a thing. |

Garbage !! You don't have to have a coach to know if you are good are bad. My coach didn't really teach me how to play my strokes. I just knew that some were wrong and I corrected them myself. There are ad & disadvanatges of not having a coach. Anyway , I am looking forward to making my national u-19 final 13 , then from that , try to make winward island (last step before windies u-19) u-19. I am looking forward to joining my first club next year. After that , I got to make my national big side , then winwards big side then here comes the windies international side. (a lot of steps for me , 4 the least but 1 nearly completed) |

In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

I suppose the great advantage of not having a coach is being able to figure things out for yourself, especially bowlers. Some players rely on their coach too much and don't allow them selves to be creative and spend most of their time thinking about what their coach would be saying. --- Score lots of runs for a club and get into the Australian side...sounds easy. Probably about 20 good leagues/districts around Melbourne alone, not to mention all those teams have their own 12 man sides. It is far easier to get into the national team at a young age through a cricket acadamy rathen than a long climb through the ranks. A great deal of luck has to be in your favour aswell |
