Today's game should be a nice even contest, although of course I'd like England to rout them it would be great for the tournament if this was a good close game played at a consistently high standard. I've got a feeling this could be KP's tournament, as long as he's properly fit.

Jimmy is fit and playing !!  Watch Fleming go LBW to the lad for single figures and the rest fold under the onslaught of Fred/Liam/Monty and the part-timers!

Michael Vaughan: great captain, awful runner. England lucky to be only two down.

A fine effort from Plunkett and Nixon sees England up to 209, which is luxury having been 138 for 7

Monty takes a wicket with his second ball.

New Zealand at 82-4; anyone's game.

We're all watching this one for the comedy value of England's fielding.

Terrible attempt in the end really, if the batsmen had shown some common sense and put on a decent score it might have been defendable but its hard to set fielding to save 4 runs an over.

So much for my prediction!!!!  Well played by NZ.  It does not look good for England if they continue batting like that in the Super 8.  NZ have definitely sent out a message to the top teams with this performance.

I missed the last couple of hours, but when I tuned out it was in the balance but Oram and Styris did the job well.

No question that England lost the game in the 130's and most fingers will be pointed at Pietersen for his dismissal, which was brainless really.

However I have to say I personally am willing to live with his flaws - if he'd hit it for six we'd all be marvelling at his belligerent counter attack - the guy thrives on taking chances and looking to dominate. It's been so long since England had a player like this so the occasional (or indeed fairly regular) dumb dismissal is a fair price to pay for the breathtaking fare served up at the Oval among other places.

His drop was the only thing I'd hold against him today.

Vaughan's dismissal was brainless, we were lacklustre at best in the field (save for a couple of moments of brilliance).

Freddie laughing when he bowled a wide summed it all up really.

Great bowling from bond. Vettori was a bit dissapointing but im not worried about that. Top 3 batsmen need to perform if NZ are going to win this WC.

England wernt terrible, but need their batsmen to really fire if they are to win with the bowling attack they have, bar monty

And sadly predictable, it's got to the stage where watching Vaughan you could convince yourself you are viewing a reshowing of any of his recent ODI knocks.  Oh look, he's out trying to pull across the line, what a surprise.
When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

Again bowlers had a better of batsmen for the most part, I shall not include the matches where a top team is playing a minnow. So far the matches featuring better sides, the scores have not been great.
Second match where two good teams were featuring, a total of 209 and then the wickets lost while chasing, so how the world cup will shape up.
Scores of 230-240 winning, probably we will be able to see that after India lanka, and SA australia match, but so far its more a bowlers world cup !

He got carried away with KP teeing off and tried to follow him. All he had to do was stay there, and for a man of his experience, talent and supposed cricket brain, well, words fail me.

As if things weren't bad enough:

http://www.cricketworld.com/england/article/?aid=10116

They're becoming an embarrassment. England to join India and Pakistan at home for the Super 8's? Don't bet against it.

Freddie's antics are reminiscent of an infamous night in Scottish football history when Jimmy Johnstone had to be rescued after drifting out to sea in a rowing boat with no oars!

Just heard it was suspension, they said he had to be rescued from the ocean when they hit the turps the other night, anyone shed some more light on it?

Suspended by the ECB for being inebriated after having already being warned about his behaviour.

Dropped and stripped of the vice-captaincy.

I presume that makes Collingwood the de facto vice-captain as Strauss isn't in the side.

Canada have done it. They have reached 200, something the Indians and Pakistanis couldn't do against the minnows. C'mon Dhaniram, 6 sixes in an over.

Good effort from Canada we would have had a much better chance if Davo didn't get out that soon.
