That was an experience to say the least!
Pakistan were abysmal in every sense of the word in the bowl out.

Heh heh, Good work india.
India has won the group.
Great thinking be using 3 spinners first up in the bowl out.

OMG! What a match!! What a match!!
I ran from one end of my room to another when that last ball was a run out! Pak bowlers were stupid in the bowl out! Even Indian part time bowlers were better than them as far as hitting the stumps is concerned. They should have opted to take the full run up. But take nothing away from the Pakistanis! They deserve equal appreciation, even though the lost it in the bowl out due to their own stupidity! Great entertainment! Just loved it! A match to savor! |

This is why i always rated Cricket as the best best sport in the world.
The spinners always and must be more accurate mate and thats where India defeated Pakistan.
The last ball of the 20th over remained me of Vaughan against SA, where u fielder was in very close and cause a run out and the result was the same, a tied.
Good work, Dhoni. Edited by BackFoot Master - 14 September 2007 at 9:35pm |

Twenty20 comment
hello Dont you think its unfair for india, that they had to play their cricket in Durbin where the weather is known to be bad. The rain stopped them playing against Scotland, and as a result they lost out on 2 points for the next round. Surely the match should have been re-scheduled because of the importance of the 2 point for the next round. And then it was not fair that they didn't even get 2 points for beating Pakistan in a bowl out. Whats the point of having the bowl out. There was no purpose for. India finished top of the table, hence playing better then Pakistan, yet Pakistan go through with 2 point. This is a bit of a farce and common sense should be used. Thanks Kamlesh Mistry |

Butt was caught behind by Dhoni on 2 runs and the umpires didn't call the 3rd umpire but they always waste 20 seconds on a 3rd umpire reply to see if the ball has gone for 4 or 3 runs, so runs more important than wickets.

We didn't think it carried.
Well done to both sets of players, officials, and if I'm told correctly, some media outlets around the world, who were convinced the game was ended with the scores level. It seems no-one can be bothered to read the rules these days. |

1. Points are not carried through to the next stage, who or what gave you that idea?
2. They finished top of the group after beating Pakistan, their biggest rivals. Will they mind about points now after that? I think not.

yeah why didn't the umpires call for the third umpire, as Dhoni catch seem to be above board. And why dont they ever call for third umpire decision when a ball has edged a bat or not, as the umpire can not always be sure. Like tendulkars dismissal against england in the last one dayer which was crucial. Put replays show he did not hit it.

They didn't call for the third umpire, because they were satisfied that he hadn't caught it cleanly.
You can't call for a third umpire to decide lbw decisions, either. |

a catch is important, especially if he caught it, which i think he did. and after kevin peterson in the tests, where he saw it on the screen and walked back to the crease after being given out. lbw are not conclusive, so u cant refer to third umpire, but a catch is either out or not out and is conclusive and therefore if an umpire is unsure, he should call for the third umpire.

I thought that ball with Butt carried to Dhoni! It wasn't sure from the behind camera but when they showed it from the first camera angle, i saw it go straight in Dhonis hand. But again, the eyes can play tricks on us. Why didn't they call the 3rd umpire though? They always do it for balls that appear to touch the rope.
Anyways, on another note, it was a great game! Thanks to the groundsman and mother nature for producing a wicket that made the ball move around and it was great watching the ball swing, beat bat, make them miss the balls and to see some balls flying to the boundary. I want to see more of those pitches.
Asif's spell was terrific and he's a very clever bowler and that's why I say he's the best young bowler on the international scene and soon to be the best!

As we have already said in the thread, the competition lasts 2 weeks, when exactly do you think they can reschedule matches for? Also, if you are tempted to start any conspiracy theory crap about being sent to Durban my best advice is this - don't. |

Yes, about Tanvir, he will deceive man a bit with reaction time as he releases before most bowlers would and he looks pretty sharp off the wicket. Weird action but he will surprise man like Malinga!

I'd say he's more like Adams for surprising people rather than Malinga.
Malinga will always surprise people because he releases all balls in the same way. When he bowls bouncers or yorkers he always uses the same slingy action making him hard to pick.
Tanvir has a slightly different action for variations, When he bowled a bouncer to Pathan, his hand had to come much further over because he usually releases it early.
This will become easy to pick over time. And when he's found out then batsmen will target him and use the angle he bowls to hit into the leg side.

and its still not fair that they didn't play there match and didn't get a chance to pickup 2 points like the rest of them.
All of India matches are in Durban, hence they are more likely to hit rain hit matches and less likely to win the tournament. I'm not saying its a conspiracy, but its unfair to play all the matches on the same ground. |

Hey, JP me and you are cool guys and no Offence but i seen Dhoni taken the catch of Butt on 2 runs very very cleanly, I don't think my tv shows any clearer than any of you guys but Butt was 100% out and i blame the umpire.
They did it for KP in the test match, why can't they do it today.
Dead right matey, I couldn't of agree more. Umpires should call for the 3rd umpire if they are unsure, same thing with run outs- they are unsure and call they call for the 3rd umpire.

yeah, i agree with that, but 3rd umpire should only be used on extreme important occasions. especially on boundary decisions. think players need to be more honest....

what a match, the best so far in this tournament. before going to sudden death situation (bowl out) I thought that both team get 1 point each because if u look in football or hockey penalty kicks or shots introduced only in semis or final not in group matches.
Indian did great job in that situation, I feel that pakistan not take it seriously just see how arafat and umar missed the stump, both have a good weapon(yorker).
Utthapa played superb cricket. Shewag still in bad form, Pathan is ok not in his full form but better than past. What happen to agarkar, he is giving so many runs these days.
Asif bowled brilliantly, Tanvir was impressive, Misbah also very good, he gave the answer to critics. Pakistan should drop salman butt in next matches , I dont think he is the good option in 20/2o match.

So instead they can finish a match at 9pm then go for a 4 hour flight to another ground ready to play their next match the following morning? Players will be thrilled you aren't an administrator. |

You can't be that sure. If you see the replay from the camera behind the keeper, it doesn't appear to be a clean catch. I don't know how can you be so sure.
I just cann't agree more with Kalmesh who is really aggrieved that all Indian matches were set in Durbin. India has got support of over 1 billion people, much much bigger than Scotland or Pakistan, so they deserved better place than the two, who have also played all their matches in Durbin, if I am not wrong.
It was one hell of a match and I've enjoyed every bit of it and I hope all of us did, so better stop crying about Durbin's bad weather and points and look forward to some really fast and furious cricket ahead. Cheers!

This match also proves that no matter what version of cricket is being played, it's not necessarily big hits and slogs that make the game most entertaining, it can be some great pieces of bowling as well. Game might be low scoring, yet it can be the most entertaining and absorbing for the cricket fans. |

You are obviously ignorant in matters South African. Firstly , India have a huge advantage from playing all their matches in Durban for the simple reason that practically all Indians living in SA live in that region. The support they receive is terrific and even when they play South Africa they can guarantee at least half of the crowd will be supporting them. If anything , Pakistan could complain of India's partisan followers and ask for a neutral venue ! Secondly the weather in Durban is not known to be bad! Fact is , this early in the season , Durban generally has superb weather with little rain. Weatherwise, Cape Town is undoubtably the worst off of all provinces within the republic at this time of year. |
