If Ireland can win this (which they most certainly can from the position they are in now), and Zimbabwe lose both their other matches then Ireland will have qualified for the Super Eights. What a great performance. |

12 needed, but Ireland are still favourites with a couple of competent batsmen in and plenty of time to get the runs.

Iftikhar Anjum to KJ O'Brien,
FOUR,
short and a trifle wide, O'Brien stands tall and launches that between
cover and extra cover, well timed and the fielders had no chance.
Looks like there will be plenty of guiness consumed today/tonight Ireland require another 5 runs with 3 wickets in hand and Gul bowls a wide ![]() Edited by NZ_Fast - 17 March 2007 at 10:51pm |

3 to win, and Hafeez bowling..... c'mon, just deposit the ball out the back of the stadium already
Azhar Mahmood to Johnston, SIX, Johnston swings and clubs the ball out of the ground over midwicket. The crowd go mad as Billy Bowden's bent fingers are raised aloft ... So Ireland win, not a lot you can say really except well done to Ireland, fantastic job. Having not actually seen the game i cant say the Pakistan were outplayed but it does look that way Edited by NZ_Fast - 17 March 2007 at 11:04pm |

Amazing victory for the Irish, thoroughly deserved and this is surely one of the biggest upsets in international cricket history. By the way I'd just like to point out that Zimbabwe can still qualify if they beat either Pakistan or the West Indies and Ireland lose their final group match.

What a humiliation for Pakistan as their supposedly amazing middle order again fails dismally the second the batting conditions are anything less than perfect

Well Ireland broke my record for the highest-ever odds winner I backed.
18.00 odds I got on the Irish victory....and I'm still smiling.....
Besides me winning $$$ though, its great to see any minnow (and Ireland especially with their great supporters) doing so well. Lets hope nothing goes drastically wrong for them, and they do make it to the Super 8's.

A very very sad news for cricket world today. Bob Wolmer died of heart attack in his hottel room. They took him to the hospital but he was dead an hour before they got to the hospital. IT's gonna be a very big shock for the team bigger than getting out of the cup.

Pakistan were pathetic no doubts about that and probably they should leave the carrebean as early as possible. No excuses against the pitch, they were poor in technique, comprehensively beaten and humiliated, Inzi should be sacked if he doesnt retire, which he has done!
I dont see a place where a pakistani team with this performance can land in pakistan! Shame on you all you have disgraced the whole nation!
Unfortunately Bob could not take this and had a heart attack, A man with some dignity could not have lived after that! I am surprised how Inzi and Younis are surviving and giving excuses in press conferences!Shame shame , Shame! Edited by wiseguy - 19 March 2007 at 5:44am |

What a St Patrick's Day to remember!! Abysmal batting from
the Pakistani's , and a solid bowling and fielding performance from the
Irishmen (and Aussies!). Just how low Pakistan can fall never fails to
amaze me - with the terrible loss of Bob Woolmer who would bet against
Zimbabwe beating them as well?
The Irish must just give it everything against the hosts , they'll probably get badly beaten , but they could still be going into the super 8's! It's good to see a few upsets , the last round robin matches have a great deal more interest now and hopefully that'll be reflected in the attendances. |

Cricket is just a game, there has to be a winner and a loser. Why should they be ashamed? Ireland played good cricket on the day, they also nearly beat South - Africa in one of the warmup games! We did not call for the heads of our captain or coach!
Cricket is not a religion, it is simply a great game we love to enjoy!
I saw some pictures back from Pakistan last night on the news, and was shocked about the remarks and comments made!

Yep, there are a lot many things, but the way these guys take the nation for a ride, the lucrative sponsorships, the heavy endorsments, the larger than life images makes a lot more expected from them. Among the third world nationals, with lack of many many basic amenities, sports is one which people take as a easy way out of all the myseries. I hope you will never imagine the grief of a person in a village who bought a transistor just for the world cup and now its practically redundant after two matches!

To Titan and 143no: Pakistan and India's cricket teams are the prides of their respective nations.
You guys just don't understand how seriously cricket is taken in the subcontinent. It may as well be an actual religion there, because the guys in those national squads are worshipped and prayed for throughout the country, both in India and Pakistan.
An early exit from the world cup will be devastating to those nations, and the teams will come under intense pressure upon their return home.
It's not just "You win some, you lose some." It doesn't work that way.

common man, you shoudnt talk about your team like that. thats what made the pakisthan team loose. all the pakisthanese put whole lot of presure on their team and expect them to win every game. it is just a game man. if you think thay are pathetic why dont you go and play for your country?
