Hampshire captain Shane Warne took seven wickets in his first match of the season to consign Middlesex to a 10-wicket defeat at the Rose Bowl.

Andrew Strauss (141) was the Aussie leg-spinner's first victim on his way to figures of 7-99 in Middlesex's 344.

The visitors at least made Hampshire bat again after Johan Louw (35) added 67 for the last four wickets.

But openers James Adams and Michael Carberry took just 16 balls to overcome a target of 17.

A fantastic win there for the boys! Good ol' Warney turnin on the fireworks at just the right time. Let that be a sign of things to come!

Having not posted in this thread for a while, a few things have changed.

Hants tame Bears to move second
County Championship D1, Edgbaston: Hampshire 405 & 218-6 dec bt Warwickshire 217 & 213 by 193 runs
Points: Hampshire 21, Warwickshire 3

Hampshire secured their second successive Championship victory with a 193-run triumph against Warwickshire.

The Bears resumed on 93-2 with a target of 407 appearing distant, and attempted to bat out the day.

But spinners Shane Warne and Shaun Udal claimed three wickets between them in a six-over spell immediately after lunch.

Dougie Brown and Tony Frost held out for 26 overs but James Anyon played on to give Chris Tremlett a third wicket and put Hampshire second in the table.

Warne had opener Ian Westwood caught at slip and in his first over after lunch turned one in sharply to left-hander Jim Troughton, who tried to pad away and saw his off-stump knocked back.

Udal then claimed two wickets in his first two overs, Alex Loudon edging an arm ball to the keeper and Michael Powell offering no shot.

After the stubborn eighth-wicket stand of 47, Warne brought back his seamers with the second new ball and Brown was trapped lbw by a James Bruce delivery that nipped back.

There were seven fielders in the slip cordon when last man Anyon faced Tremlett and Hampshire wrapped things up 20 minutes into the final session.

And also KP has hit fine form as of late with a superb 158 for England recently, its all good!

Its Somerset in the C&G up next for Hants and looks a tough game but I think we'll take it!

A fantastic 22 points in County Division 1 as Hampshire thrashed holders Nottinghamshire by 229 runs. Brilliant performance from everyone involved, especially Crawley with two centuries, and bowler Bruce, who took 5-43 in Notts' second innings. Nick Pothas also scored a century to silence his doubters.

Sorry TC, I guess I haven't looked here ina  good while!!

Anyway for your troubles here is a full update on the curent game against Kent as an apology:

John Crawley found some inspired form to lead Hampshire to a commandin position of 171-2 on a  day when only 55 overs were possible because of rain.

After a mediocre Kent innings, which included a defiant 35 from dropped England international Geraint Jones plus half centuries from henderson and Walker, Hampshire set out to post a decent total to put their title chances back on track.

Crawley duly responded with a sublime innings, which included 19 boundaries, and was at the crease with Sean Irvine (8*) at stumps on day two. Adams and Carberry had departed early on 38 and 0 respectively before crawley hit out on a miserable day at Canterbury. Hampshire captain Shane Warne will hope for more of the same tomorrow for day three, and hope the weather stays away, so he can get a chance on what looks a good wicket for him after taking three Kent first innings wickets.

Hopefully mate! Hampshire eventually reached 554-7 declared with Kent 29-0 at the close of play today, so a victory seems very realistic!

After Crawley ended an epic innings on 189, Thornely and othas both picked up handy half centuries before Mascarenhas smashed 131 off just 151 balls, before being out bowled Patel caught Stevens. Warne (44* off 31) immediately declared after Mascarenhas' departure, leaving the home side still needing 240 to make Hamsphire bat again.

It all looks great at the moment!

I think it is the last day today so Hampshire need to take a few early wickets and  Kent are now 132-0 so all isn't looking too good for Hampshire. This game seems destined for a draw.

Kent now 205-0 off 71 overs so unless Warney's works some Aussie wonders, it looks like we're out of the title race.

Hampshire are pretty much out of the title race as it is. This is turning out to be quite a disappointing season for Hampshire.

Yeah, but Warney and KP haven't played as much as I would've liked, but there are promising signs for next season from tremlett, Jimmy Adams and John Crawley so its not all bad.

John Crawley is still the legend he once was. But he is getting old. Jimmy Adams is playing well this year and is a bright spark. Tremlett hasn't bowled as well as he did last year but has bowled reasonably well.

Not necessarily. How did you work that one out? Hampshire played well last season without Warne for the most of it. So Warne isn't the only player in the team. A lot of bowlers are out of form. Not necessarily Shane. You seem to be one of these people that just look at figures and make your mind up 70 degree spin. Figures don't necessarily reflect on whether the bowler has bowled well in that game.

I agree, i was only joking. Only 3 people have ever finished a championship season with averages over 100. One was Geoffrey Boycott, another was some other great batsman and the third one was a number 11 who was only out once in the whole season. So I have to agree with that although I still think Sajid Mahmood is rubbish.

They don't lie, but they don't necessarily reflect on how the bowler has bowled.

Hampshire are like the Real Madrid of cricket. They've got some big stars but never perform to their potential.

I'm not sure about that in the County Championship every team has star players so calling Hampshire the real Madrid of cricket is a bit overboard as in the Primera Liga (Spanish Premiership) there are really only 3 decent teams. Not a bad season I thought this year.
