I have no idea how country cricket works? Would anyone be kind enough to explain it to me or give me a link where there is an easy explanation.
EDITED - Sorry about the name of the thread. I tried to write the letter combination for the confused emoticon but it didn't work. Edited by saadadvanced7 |

County cricket is played by 18 teams, split into two divisions, no more than two overseas players per team. Each team plays every other team in its division home and away, so that's 16 matches per team in a season. Each game is allotted four days, two innings per side. That's the basics. Here's the detail: Feel free to ask questions. Edited by swerveman |

Well, thanks a lot of for all the information but what you wrote was enough.
If there are 18 teams then every team should play 17 games in a season because they have to face every other team right?? Why does every team play 16 games in a season? |

It's definitely sixteen games Saad. Each division has 9 teams. A team can't play itself, so that makes two times eight games (home and away) which makes sixteen.

OH, yea, that's right. I got a bit confused. I get it now. So when all the teams have faced off in each division, then the the top team from each division faces each other for some championship?

No, the divisions are not seen to be of equal standard (although it's debatable). At the end of the season, the top three second division teams get promoted to the first division, and the bottom three first division teams get demoted.

i believe that the C&G trophy has been split into north and south divisions with each team playing each other once in their division. the top place for the south and north league then meets in the final. the totesport has been changed to 40 overs, hence the 40 over league name. i dont like the new name for the frizzell, the liverpool victoria the twenty20 is great though, split into three divisions based on regions and then the winners go through to the quarter finals and then a terrific day at trent bridge takes place this year where both the semis and the final are played in one day the LVC has been explained i believe. hope this helps |
