He was a dynamic player played in late 90s and early 2000s. Every one talks of him as a ODI batsman, but his test performances are most under noted. They are intact as close to that of Ian Healy, who is regarded as the best in recent years.

Matches	Runs	HS	Average	100s	50s	Catches	Stumpings
Kaluwitharana 49 1933 132* 26.12 3 9 93 26
Healy 119 4356 161* 27.39 4 22 366 29

When the data is corrected for the number of matches, they are astonishingly close. Your comments are welcomed.

It's not close , Healy was as good a keeper as I've seen since Alan Knott , he could biff a few too.
Kaluwitharana was the junior partner to Jayasuriya and did a decent job in the one dayers , but he was not a top class bat.  His keeping was solid , rather than spectacular. A decent player , but no more than that.

His advantage was he took the cricketing world by surprise, no one had batted like that in the first 15 overs before, once the teams woke up he was less successful. On healy, he was plucked from obscurety, he had played very little 1st class cricket, but it showed how good he was to keep gilchrist at bay so long.

Kalu was nowhere near as successful away from home , he couldn't cope with bouncy tracks.

Probably that explains why he has a average of 30.5 when batting in Australia against career average of 26 LOLLOL
He was very good on pull and cut. SO he was very successful in Austrailia.

Healy was not a top class bat too! I doubt whether you have seen Kalu keeping on substandard SRL pitches in mid 90s. Most of those matches were not on air for people to see. That may be the reason you refer to him as an average keeper, but he was much better against turning ball than that.

143's comment on Healy keeping Gilchrist out in the cold should settle this argument.  I think we're all agreed (tongue firmly in cheek here!) that Gilchrist is the finest keeper/batsman to have played the game , so Healy must've been special.
Some of the stumping/catches off Warne from savage legbreaks were breathtaking.

I was not saying Kalu was better than Healy. Was I?
I was proposing he was much closer to Healy than any other keeper played in that time period.

I can imagine what Murali have been if he were to be Austrailian.

HAHA!!  Well said.  ;-)  That comment just begs for a SL fan to come out and say....if Murali was Australian, he would never have been no-balled in the first place.
