My younger cousin played his first cricket game yesterday!
The other team had a few county players, so you can imagine the score, but he had fun, which was the main thing! He got a couple of runs as well, which was nice.. They went 13 all out, the other team scoring 156-1

I hit 3 in that particular innings. I think I only hit 5 all last season.
I only made 9 last Sunday though, a victim of my own poor footwork more than anything. I bowled beautifully and had absolutely no luck, so ended up wicketless somehow. Hopefully to balance that out I will get a hatful of wickets bowling absolutely filth in the next few weeks.

We had a very early start to the season with our first game today, and for me personally it was a pretty good one. Batting at 7 I caned a pretty quick 47 to ensure we got a good run rate, then after going for 2 singles in my first over I bowled 5 straight maidens, during which I took 4 wickets. I was robbed of the 5-for by a shocking not out LBW decision, which would have given me 5-2. and inevitably the next ball was smashed out of the park!

Although this is my 2nd game with it, I can safely say it's the best bat I've had. Such a sweet sound off the bat when I hit those 3 drives off the leggie. The bat isn't fully set in as yet, which is making me more exciting. Should get even better within the next few weeks when it's properly set in.
I got it from your part of the world too mate, be proud of your boys for making good bats.

My season has re-opened and i've played 2 games. Hardly took much part in the first 2 day game, making 9, being bowled by a beauty of a delivery (started to outswing in the air then nipped back in and took out my middle stump). I only bowled 2 overs for probably 16 runs. 2 horrible balls and that was enough.
Other game, took 1-13 off 4 overs - gone back to off spin - due to back issues making my action too inconsistent, I decided to go back to the safer option, for now at least until I get the body stronger.
Made 4 with my first dig at the crease. In the 2nd innings, we were about 20-3 and we couldn't have won the game, wasn't enough time to get the 170 odd runs so we had to play for a draw. Well, within a few balls, I was in a Chris Gayle mood with my new Ihsan bat. I got a pitched up delivery from a leggie and I drove it ferociously to mid off for no runs. Few balls later, sent a low full toss from the leggie flying flat back down the ground for 6 (felt proud, my first ever 6 at the international ground here). Next over, got 2 more fours off him, a full toss pulled behind square and a pitch up delivery smash down the ground. I was on a roll, reaching 25 in no time but slowed back down due to a new bowler bowling excruciatingly slow and my partner being unable to take runs unless it was very easy due to a groin injury. I made 35, could have easily been 45 if my partner could have run. Funny thing is, the ball before I got out, it was a run but we didn't take it because of the injury then next ball I'm gone - Cricket is a funny game. Anyhow, it's the best i've batted in donkey ages!!

Haha, naw, we are a champion team, the only rigging we do is with the pitch, something that the teams here don't even realise. Our groundsman were away in Barbados for the last 3 weeks so other guys were in control so that's why it played horribly.
When we use to play on matter, when playing against the 2nd best team with their fast bowlers, we never use to pull the matting to stiff, as compare to when we were up against other teams. he he

Played a T20 game yesterday, my first bit of action in over a month. The pitch was very horrible, by far the worse I've played on in my time so far. Played extremely low, some just didn't even come up 2 inches off the ground. We loss or winning streak this season to the 2nd best team. They had faster bowlers so the pitch benefited them more. They made 124 and we loss by 11 runs. The previous lowest score in our encounters was 164 so that alone will tell the story.
I made the highest individual score between both sides, 41 and I got out in the 16th over and I opened. Only had probably 16 runs in boundaries. Anyhow, next game, we have to win else we are out of the semi's. Two of our guys are the groundsmen so the word is, a rolled in grass pitch with the ball coming on with about waist height bounce at this level and we'll be unstoppable!

With my accuracy at the moment, can't afford that. I could to the left handers, with a short leg but I don't like bowling with guys around the bat for Right handers.

Bounce is your best asset, get a couple of blokes around the bat and you'll see some prods going to short leg and bat pad. Worked well for Kumble.

haha, yes, I know what you mean buddy but me pitch up two balls that bounced and turn - batsman came forward and was beaten, the other was the shorter googly which got even more bounce, nevermind it was pushed through faster, although with overspin.

Perhaps you're not quite bowling the length you think you are bowling... if that makes sense?

Yeah, I bowl with more over spin. The wicket-keeper once remarked over the weekend after I bowled a delivery that I was getting too much bounce.
I get a good seam position, good revs but I'm not tall so maybe it could be the former. Even back to last weekend I bowled a flatter faster short of a length googly, completely outfoxed the batsman but it went over the stumps, way over the stumps. Oh well, it seems that if the bounce isn't low, it's big haha

Perhaps you're putting a touch more top spin on your deliveries of late Spinny?

Well i played my final 2 day game weekend gone by, got 4-50. I was on a roll, dismissing 4 of the first 5 wickets to fall. I bowled very well although bowled too much balls to hit away. I have notice that I get quite a bit of bounce, don't know if it have anything to do with the pitches not being of good quality.

Played 2 games, both 20/20. On saturday my won won by eight wickets chasing 125 in 12.3 overs. I made 47 not out with 8 fours. The number 4 batsman made 50 from 21 balls. I also ran out one of my team mate. On sunday morning, my team won by 7 wickets chasing down 160 in 11.5 overs. I was ran out for one run on the 2nd ball of our innings. The lad that i ran out on saturday, he ran me out this trip so we pretty much even, one for one.
But it was 2 days of terrific cricket from my team.
No match next week due to carnival

Had a wonderful weekend. Played a T20 game on saturday against a very weak team and we nearly got beat by them. I got a first ball duck, caught deep cover and we only managed 135. We defeated them in the end by about 20 runs. I bowled well but got no wickets.
Yesterday, we went over and played at the MCG - Mustique Cricket Ground. A very peaceful place it is overthere and quite prestigious as well all know. The ball was coming on nicely and I opened and made 38 and shared a 100 odd opening partnership. Hit 5 fours and 1 six, the six being a pull shot behind square. We got 197 in the end.
We ended up winning by 16 runs I think. We fielded badly and bowled badly. I was the pick of the bowlers with 2-22 from my 4. My leggies were spot on and was getting a lot of bounce and turn. Was a wonderful day, the only blemish was that the sun was too hot!!

Not me personally, but my younger lad was playing some 8 a side cricket tonight at a ground called Aylestone Road in Leicester.
Once upon a time it was the county ground, and the bar has photos of WG Grace playing there, and from when Bradman scored 185* there. Jack Hobbs and Wally Hammond are just 2 of the many other legendary names to have played on the same ground. All completely lost on the young one of course, but hopefully one day he will know a bit more about those names and appreciate the opportunity he had this evening to walk in such footsteps. |

Played a T20 game on saturday against a team that isn't club standard, just guys really having fun. I got a fifer but took some stick as well (5-31), mainly due to me having pressure of can't pitch up due to the boundaries straight being extremely short. I got 48 not out with the bat and we won by 8 wickets.
I fixed the pitch before the game and it played the best it has played for the last 2 years, a few balls rose to head height! I made good use of a bit more pace than it usually is.
I have a 2-day game this weekend against former Windies pacer Nixon McLean and his side. He isn't quick like he was but still bowls at an alright pace so it would be good if I could get a bat against him and his brother who bowls a bit quicker. I'm hoping I could have a good game with ball and bat.
Wish me luck folks!
Oh, one last thing, due to me suppose to play this weekend, I am going to get away from working this weekend. Cricket is the shot! Edited by spin wizard - 13 May 2010 at 11:03pm |

I had two occurances that had never happened to me before in my many years of cricket in my game at the weekend.
First, I took a wicket with the first ball of the match, so that was a positive one, but then later on i was run out at the non striker's end when a drive was deflected onto the stops, a less positive one naturally!

Watch a day in training yesterday on a skiddy concrete wicket. Went in to bat and one guy was chucking them down fast, not Steyn, Roach etc pace but still fast. First one I fended off my body down to first leg, second one was turned around aerially past the keeper. The next 3 got a Chris Gayle of putting up one foot and pulling, although I didn't pull as disdainfully as Gayle does but I just pulled them delicately down to fine leg area for 3 lovely shots. Bowler got annoyed and went around the wicket, first ball, BAM, helmet blown off my head. I evaded it well but it still took the underpath of the back of my helmet and took it off on the way, seeing my helmet doesn't have no strapping (I took it out) to hold it and also took a little bit of the back of my neck. Went back to bat, people thought I was hurt but that's one of the softest blows I've ever recieve from a ball from a fast bowler hitting part of my body.2 balls later, another bullet came my way, perfect bouncer, head height, saw this one better and swayed out of the way. It was a good piece of training to be honest, first time in a long time facing some "fast" bowling and it's only because the concrete have a tendacy to skid rather to rise why it was hard to determine whether to pull so you got to wait later to make up your mind. One things for certain as far as i'm concerned, inconsistent bounce is the hardest thing to face in cricket.
