We're in North America. There arent exactly people lining up to take your spot in this part of the continent.
But I'm in a bigger city this year so that should change. More competition for spots, which is why I'm happy that I did pretty well at practice.

I've got my debut for my clubs 2nd XI today. It's probably a better team than the T20 team I was in and I'll have to keep for a full 50 overs for the first time this season (I did it a few times last year). I'm only batting 10 though so there's no pressure there.
It went well in the end, we batted first and struggled to 140-8 when I came in. I put on 68 with the number nine, but only got 8* myself. We managed 210 in the end though from 53.4 overs which we thought was pretty good on a fairly rubbish track. They came out to bat and only managed 80 all out in 29.5 overs, one of our spinners opened up and got 6-41, I got 1 catch, but unfortunately dropped one off our other spinner and conceded a couple of byes which was a bit annoying. Still though it was a good win and moves the team out of the relegation zone in division 4. Edited by slogger72N/O - 05 July 2009 at 10:05am |

Played a fete match yesterday. My side won the toss and chose to bat. We got 165 from 23 overs (25 0vers game). I opened and made good pace 32 before I got bowled to a straight ball from an off spinner that kept low.
The opposition ended on 99-5 from 11 overs when the heavens opened up and that was it. I took 2-14 from 3 overs. I cleaned up a guy with a wicked near yorker faster deliveries that drifted in late and bowled him. Got a guy the very next ball try to cross pull me across the line only to see another faster deliveries of mine (back of a length) knock back his off stump.
I played through a cold yesterday and still have it now but the playing seemed to ease it off a bit.

Good grief lads, I am starting to think I must have a big target painted on me whenever I go out to bat. I wrote previously about being hit various parts around the body - today I took a beamer on the jaw. I'm not sure whether it hit the grille of my helmet onto the jaw, or the angle was such that it pushed the grille up and the ball hit me directly, but I do know it hurt, and worse, it hurts even more now several hours later. I strongly suspect that come tomorrow morning, opening my mouth will be an impossibility!

I remember getting hit in the chin with a bouncer under my grill and that really hurt. But getting hit ON THE FULL, wow that's insane. Maybe you should get an x-ray or some scans on that, sounds like a nasty blow. Was it from a quicker or a slow bowler?

It was a fairly quick bowler but I think it was a slightly slower delivery. Although still sore it's not as bad as I had feared it would be this morning and I'm sure there's no serious damage done.

Tough luck there Clobber, get an x-ray.
Anyhow, I've had my worse display for the year yesterday in a 2020 game. We loss the toss and was sent to bowl and we out them down for 101 but I took some serious stick, over pitching (not intentionally ofcourse) too much and went for 41 but I still got 2 wickets.
When I went to bat, 2nd ball, I went after a pitched up that swing away and big too and it went into first slip hand but it was a no ball. Timed a nice cover drives a few balls later and got a 3 but some balls later, I recieved a beauty of a delivery and got lbw. To me, it pitched outside leg but still for a bowler who's bowling over the wicket to get that to come back and was going to take out off, I felt no shame in the dismissal. So I departed for 5.
I'm still the leading run scorer but I have to make at least a half century in my remaining 3 games if I want to keep that.

So, with my injury recovery in progress, my team have a big game this weakend. Well, just in rivalry terms and confidence booster because whoever wins get 1st, who lose takes 2nd place in table then comes the semi finals and finals.
We have a lot to play for, firstly, we have to continue our 3 year unbeaten streak since the tournament started and that team has been our biggest rival and they have been the only one that looks like they can upset us. They have a good pace attack but ours have more variety.
The good thing is, (because of my injury as I can't see myself bowling leggies this weekend) it's raining hard at the moment and a tropical wave is around the Island so chances of play sunday seems slim but hey, in these parts, the sun can shine anytime. If the rains come, we'll end up second because their net run rate is better than ours but we both are undefeated so far for the season.
The finger is coming along well, getting rid of the swelling and junks (main cause of the pain) is what is required and I'm doing that well at the moment. Finger has quite a bit of movement in it so as I said, the injury wasn't so bad after all as I initially thought it was on impact. Time will tell! Edited by spin wizard - 30 July 2009 at 2:33pm |

Well, there was excellent sunshine on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so the games went on.
My finger wasn't fit, still pain to bowl a ball out of the hands much less for 22 yards so I was all set to bowl off breaks. My nerves were rattling a few hours before the game, I didn't eat much, made sure to fluid up with a few glasses of gatorade. We went to the park then I went and had a lil warm up batting and was feeling nice. We loss the toss and was sent to field.
We got a wicket first ball and the 2 overs later, another so the start was excellent. The runs started to leak then came my role that I play better than anyone in the team, I'm the plugger when runs is leaking. I bowled my offies and got a wicket first ball, a catch in covers. I bowled my 4 overs and got 2/21. I bowled quite quick through the air, didn't get turn but bowled a lot of back spinners as well so the batsmen were clueless when going back, the balls were hurring on. A medium fast got 4 wickets for us and other than me and him and the opening bowler, everyone else got murdered around the park and we had to chase 183.
The same guy that took 4 wickets opened with me and we went off to a great start, being 67-1 from 7 overs when I fell for 34, bowled again by an off spinner but I batted well other than that, scored a lot between gully and slips, using my edge in the Strauss fashion. The pacers didn't trouble me at all and I played them with ease, my batting has really improved this year. Anyhow, we loss the game in the end by 4 runs. For the start we had, we shouldn't have loss. Things were really bad, it's a good thing a lad came in and blazed 18 off 7 balls.
Anyhow, that's our first loss ever since the tournament started 3 years back and better now than when the semis and finals come. The thing is, when you are accustom of winning, one loss don't do the confidence any harm, it just makes you want to come back harder.

Had a T20 semi finals game yesterday and it had some excitement. We won the toss and bowled first, a lot of the guys were disappointed that the skipper didn't consult with us, as he has done before, cause we wanted to bat and that affected the team spirit somewhat.
Anyhow, the side got 156. A guy went down to slog a ball from short of a length and it bounce and hit him on the head, and he's down on the ground and blood is dripping. He had to go off and the rest was just a minute walk away so he got stitches, came back and played a good innings. He had a groin injury before the game but the blow seemed to have carried it away because he came out bowling on it and he batted with a runner cause he was really struggling before that hit. Anyhow, I got 2-23 bowling offies again (leggy finger isn't gonna be ready anytime soon).
Anyhow, we got to the total with 6 wickets down. We didn't bat some of our better batsmen so that's why lost that many wickets. I got 26 and played some pretty good shots and was excellent against an off spinner, brilliantly late cutting him then turning one behind square for consecutive fours. I also slammed a Garfield Sobers style shot behind point off the backfoot and it rocketed away.
Next week is the finals and it's once again we and our biggest rivals. That's how it has been for the last 2 tournaments. They won against us a week ago but make no mistake, our guys usually get fired up against them, and this week, I know there won't be any argument before the game.
A lot of serious training this week for me, got to get the belly flattened a bit.

Ofcourse we will bro.
Anyhow, a squad will be picked from that competition we are currently playing to take part in the National T20 competition. Well, the squad was named yesterday, and I was appointed as the skipper. I'm happy with the team, looking forward to reaching the quarter finals at least. I was the vice captain last year, the skipper is too old this year and under performing to. One of my good buddies is the vice captain, he's our fastest bowler.

Heh Heh CHAMPIONS once again.
batting first struggling at 76 for 7, my team( youth combine) recovered well to make 183 all out of 20 vers. I make a quick 13 from 5 balls. I hit a superb one handed six over long on.
The oppostion ( The aussie) made 157 all out to give us a 26 runs victory. celebration was crazy and all now i can't stop talk, bragging like crazy.
The was an english tourist who was absolutely delighted that "the aussie" has lost. He say he hates any team named " the aussie".

Congratulations BFM and spin, sounds like a great win for you guys.
I'm having a pretty rought time at the moment, I've batted 3 times on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and this is what has happened. Friday: 0 - edged a ball to slip going for a drive Saturday: 0 - Bowled by a ball that nipped back in Sunday: 0 - hit a looping, waist high full toss from a spinner to mid-on So I'm not doing too well at the moment really, and I have the U16 Surrey cup semi final today against Farnham who beat our U17's narrowly earlier on in the season. Due to holidays we don't have a great team, but they'll probably have similar problems so it should be a good game. If we win the final is on Thursday. |

If you think you had thing bad Slogger, I made 1 yesterday opening the innings and then went for 38 from my 2 overs and for a second, I thought I loss our side the cup but thankfully there was an excellent fight back from the other bowlers.
There was a first class player in the opposition ranks and when we dismissed him, we knew it was ours but he was bowled by a beauty of a delivery.
We had things tough, batting in conditions conducive to bowling, the ball swung and the pitch was damp so I need not say more.
In the end, we won and I didn't let my bad display get to me, I ran in as hard as I could when we won and went for the stumps and made a small run around the park with the crew. It felt great and this was probably the worst game i've had in 5 years but I was due a bad one seeing I had such a good year so far.
Oh, and next week, the national T20 tournament starts so it's another T20 tournament to go into and I will be skippering the side and like the 15 man squad, very balanced although some of the batsmen are struggling at the moment. Hopefully they'll play better when they meet the better pitches. Edited by spin wizard - 17 August 2009 at 1:48pm |

Finals is what every player dream about and I can tell u i wont ever forget yesterday game. The fans was fantastic, the atmsophere was electric. Players fired up. The game was coming live on radio for the fans who couldn't attend the game. Everything was just fantastic. Overall it was a good season with one lose( the aussie) in 12 matches. Pretty amazing to see "the aussie" pull off a Sri Lanka, one defeat in the tournament and it came in the final.

Unfortunately our semi-final went very badly in the end. The opposition turned up with a very weak bowling attack, so we decided to bat first on a worn and used pitch in the hope we could pile on the runs and leave them to bat on a terrible wicket later. We got off to great start as our openers put on 60 for the first wicket. Then one of them got out and our captain and star bat went for just 1. I came in and made a run a ball 10, before being stumped. We made 127-8 off our 20 overs in the end.
It turned out they only had one good batsmen who did all the scoring while his partner just hung around at the other end. He brought up his 50 in the 10th over with the score on 65-0. Just after came the moment that decided the match, I was standing up to one of our quicker bowlers to try and keep him in his crease when he bowled one down the legside. The batsmen stumbled out of his crease and I gathered it cleanly and stumped him, he was miles out of his ground (and I'm not the only who thinks this, our sqaure leg fielder agreed he was miles out). I ran off to celebrate a great stumping that would probably win us the match only to see that their umpire hadn't given it out, it was an unbelievable bit of cheating that won the game by 9 wickets (the batsmen finished 92*). So we were pretty gutted to loose but I guess if they want to cheat then there's nothing we could do about it. |

Was the umpire on the opposition payroll? Otherwise how was it cheating?

He was the oppositions umpire, at U16 level it's mostly 1 umpire from each side (they're normally someone in the teams dad or the teams coach) so there's a lot of potential for cheating (and there often is).

You think that's bad mate, have you ever seen an umpire call no ball and then signal end of over after the ball is dead?

Yerp, that's plain unconscionable. The solution... get guys out bowled!! I remember one time as a lad we were playing against a top side and only made 100 runs from our 20 overs. They came out to bat and were cruising 50 for none, and I was FINALLY given a bowl (I was probably the 6 bowler used maybe 7th). I took 3 wickets in 4 balls , 2 big ripping off breaks that took the stumps right out and a caught behind. The next over I got a big wicket, dismissing the big hitting left hander from around the wicket also bowled. The umpire at my end was the opposition coach and instead of grimmacing he was admiring my bowling and asking me for tips!! |

I might be back bowling leggies this sunday for our first game of the national 2020's. Had a few balls bowled yesterday to test it and it wasn't that ok but just a lil bit of pain. Another 5 days should do I guess because my off breaks were horrible on sunday, I need back my leggie and variations.

Leggies bowl off spin pretty well. I've seen Warne get test wickets with conventional off breaks.

As an offie I hate darting it in. Love throwing it up outside off and watching it break back in to the batsman. An old coach of mine used to tell me to not go around the wicket to the left handers straight away and to throw the ball up outside leg and get the batsman out around his legs... let's say that I didn't get a lot of wickets doing that.

I was just going to say as an off spinner, going around the wicket right away is something to do. It comes like a leg spinner to right handers, very effective that way, that's something I admire greatly about Swann, Panesar, Vettori because they switch according to the batting hand of the batsman.

Well my preseason training isn't as advanced as I would have hoped. Just been so busy the last couple of weeks, and my club doesn't seem to have bothered with near as many indoor net sessions as last year. In fact, by this time last year we had had 6 indoor sessions, 2 of them being nets. Hopefully they get something going in Septmeber or else we (meaning bowlers) will all be going into the season terrible underbowled.

Played 2 T20 games this weekend. First one we loss by 4 wickets.
We loss the toss and was inserted on a damp pitch but it turned out that made the pitch play good, ball came on with good bounce. I faced Nixon McLean, first ball I got from him was an inswinger back of a length which I would have blast pass point if it hadn't inswing. Ran d second one down to third man. Third ball of my innings I got a gem from his brother - pitched on the stumps and moved away a touch to take off stump.
Anyhow, we made 109 but bowled well and if we hadn't dropped 3 catches in the first over, things could have been different, seeing they finished the game in the 18th over.
We won the second game, batting first and making 140. I got a duck, completely loss focus and got bowled, a bit similar to the first innings but this length was too much back so I had enough time to adjust.
We restricted the guys in the run chase, don't think they got near 100 because we bowled very well. I only bowled one over for the day, my spinning finger isn't healed back strongly enough to rev up the ball. Our next game of the tournament is in 2 weeks time so hopefully by then I can get back to at least revving up the ball.
I was the captain as well, things got a little rough at the team selection, one guy ended up leaving the team because he was left out. Anyhow, that didn't affect us on the field and I think our bowling attack is the best in the competition. If we make 130 on the big ground here, it's gonna be hard to achieve against us.
