Yep , the kiss of death strikes again!

First game of the season for me today. It was a slightly odd game in some ways with the opposition sending a mostly youthful side, and our openers cashed in until talk of retiring to give others a go fuzzed their minds a bit and ruined both their chances of making hundreds that were there for the taking.

I went in at 5 with 6/7 overs left. I didn't play a single defensive shot during my innnings, but an 11 year old kid did make me look like a bumbling fool, turning it both ways (he had to chuck to get it turning one way it has to be said) when in an over I hit one four and had big swings and missed the 5 other deliveries. I was happy enough with 27 not out at better than a run a ball.

I bowled second change since the other bowling candidates hadn't got to bat, and with 18 overs left the opposition had 9 wickets in hand, so the draw was the likely result.

At that point the skipper switched me to my preferred end and brought our other main bowler on. We then started grabbing wickets, with me getting 4 in 4 overs, before having a dolly dropped to deny me a 5, so the chap at the other end wrapped it up to take a 6 -for.

We play the same team next week, at their ground, and don't expect to see quite so many youngsters on show as they seek revenge.

Well a new season of 20/20 starts this weekend on the beautiful seven (7) square miles Island of Bequia.

I had two occurances that had never happened to me before in my many years of cricket in my game at the weekend.

It's true, I'd pay money to watch me!

Not me personally, but my younger lad was playing some 8 a side cricket tonight at a ground called Aylestone Road in Leicester.

Once upon a time it was the county ground, and the bar has photos of WG Grace playing there, and from when Bradman scored 185* there. Jack Hobbs and Wally Hammond are just 2 of the many other legendary names to have played on the same ground.

All completely lost on the young one of course, but hopefully one day he will know a bit more about those names and appreciate the opportunity he had this evening to walk in such footsteps.

Had a wonderful weekend.  Played a T20 game on saturday against a very weak team and we nearly got beat by them.  I got a first ball duck, caught deep cover and we only managed 135.  We defeated them in the end by about 20 runs.  I bowled well but got no wickets.

Played 2 games, both 20/20. On saturday my won won by eight wickets chasing 125 in 12.3 overs. I made 47 not out with 8 fours. The number 4 batsman made 50 from 21 balls. I also ran out one of my team mate.

Perhaps you're putting a touch more top spin on your deliveries of late Spinny?

Perhaps you're not quite bowling the length you think you are bowling... if that makes sense?

Bounce is your best asset, get a couple of blokes around the bat and you'll see some prods going to short leg and bat pad. Worked well for Kumble.

Played a T20 game yesterday, my first bit of action in over a month.  The pitch was very horrible, by far the worse I've played on in my time so far.  Played extremely low, some just didn't even come up 2 inches off the ground.  We loss or winning streak this season to the 2nd best team.  They had faster bowlers so the pitch benefited them more.  They made 124 and we loss by 11 runs.  The previous lowest score in our encounters was 164 so that alone will tell the story.

Haha, naw, we are a champion team, the only rigging we do is with the pitch, something that the teams here don't even realise.  Our groundsman were away in Barbados for the last 3 weeks so other guys were in control so that's why it played horribly.

My season has re-opened and i've played 2 games.  Hardly took much part in the first 2 day game, making 9, being bowled by a beauty of a delivery (started to outswing in the air then nipped back in and took out my middle stump).  I only bowled 2 overs for probably 16 runs.  2 horrible balls and that was enough.

Although this is my 2nd game with it, I can safely say it's the best bat I've had.  Such a sweet sound off the bat when I hit those 3 drives off the leggie.  The bat isn't fully set in as yet, which is making me more exciting.  Should get even better within the next few weeks when it's properly set in.
