India 255/4 off of 40 overs now, so with 10 overs to go they need 44 runs. Sounds easy, especially with Dhoni still there on 152 (128 balls) and he's been joined by Venugopal Rao (4 from 16).

Dhoni's still going mad, he's just hit his eighth six, a record as he moves to 169 - 12 runs required for India now.

OK, delay in updating there, I looked again and he's on 177, nine sixes and just two needed to win. Another comprehensive victory for India looming.

What an outstanding performance from Dhoni, he won the game with yet another six, his tenth to finish on 183 not out as India win by 6 wickets with 23 balls to spare.

I make that the 6th best ODI innings of all time (overtakes Gangulys 183 at Taunton, oh the irony), the second best by an Indian (Tendulkar 186 v NZL 1999) and the best by a wicketkeeper (Gilchrist 172 v Zim, 2004)

you said the 6th best and you only mentioned 3 other "best" innings, what about the other 2 "best" innings?

I think you've got a bit confused here saad, but here's the list:
1. S Anwar 194
2. V Richards 189*
3. S Jayasuriya 189
4. G Kirsten 188*
5. S Tendulkar 186
6. MS Dhoni 183*
7. S Ganguly 183
-----^\/^\/-------
11. A Gilchrist 172

Let's get this innings in perspective , Viv Richards' knock was in a 60 over match and Gary Kirsten's against mighty UAE !! Dhoni deserves all the applause for a spectacular knock - Vaas and Murali were playing fellas!
3-0 then and as good as over for the Lankans....Ganguly can retire now methinks....
The India/SA series could be quite explosive!!

Not detracting from Dhoni's amazing 10 6's , what are your thoughts on the size of the actual playing areas nowadays fellas?
The ropes are being brought so far infield that clearing them is barely a nudge on some grounds now! To my way of thinking , it's again the powers that be wanting to rev up ODI's and we're going to see more 6 hitting records being broken.
I find this wrong , usually the tracks give very little to the bowlers anyway and to be hoiked 40-odd yards for a 6 must be soul destroying !!
Let's go back to the rope on the fence and keep maximums to shots that endanger the crowd!

Match 4 in Pune and India won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Sangarkarra (8) and Jayasuriya (16) both went lbw to Agarkar. New boy Taranga (21) played fluently before being caught off Santh.
At the crease is Dilshan (29) and the struggling captain , Atapattu (14) - Sri Lanka are 98-3 after 19 overs.

Sri Lanka moving along quietly and after 29 overs are 148-3. Dilshan 52 (69) and the skipper 39 (55)
With India in such rampant form they'll need to double this total methinks!

Breakthrough for India as Harbhajan has Dilshan caught by Tendulkar for 52. Atapattu has just passed his half century too (51) and is joined by Arnold.
Sri Lanka 162-4 after 34 overs.

All gone a bit pearshaped for Sri Lanka!
After 47 overs , they are 243-7.
Atapattu returned to some sort of form with a defiant 86 (100) before falling to Sehwag.
Vass is batting with Murali now....should be a fun 3 overs!!

All out 261 and Agarkar takes 5 wickets for 44 runs - good effort there!
Looking at the way this series has gone , 262 looks a piddling score and should lead to 4-0.....but maybe the bookmakers know better !!
India are playing good cricket at the moment - because of Chappell or because they're Ganguly-less - you tell me !!

India start their reply briskly (how else!) 22-0 after 5 overs.
Not without a little luck either , Tendulkar top-edged Fernando over thirdman for 6 and Murali dropped a tough one to save Sehwag.

23-1 ! A clearly frustrated Tendulkar (11) gives Vaas the charge , misses and loses his off stump ! Yuvrav Singh at the wicket now.....

34-2 and Yuvrav Singh manages to smash a long hop to backward point where it's caught by Dilshan off Zoysa's 1st ball.
Two silly dismissals , I think the bookies DO know something!!

81-2 after 15 overs and India seemingly purring along.
Sehwag 37 (43) Dravid 18 (23)
Required runrate just 5.17

Murali snaps up Sehwag for 48 , caught Arnold. Dravid scoring at a run a ball and has 45 now , joined by Venugopal Rao.
Looks like a walk in the park at 134-3 after 24 overs

A procession in Pune , with Maharoof really containing the batsmen with brilliant line and length. His figures are splendid ......
4-0 41-0 that'll have the Indians sweating!
India 169-3 after 30 overs .
Dravid 54* Rao 38*

OooooooooooooooooH !!! Murali has Rao caught behind for 38 and there's panic in the ranks of the Indians !!
Out of form (!) Dhoni comes in now and it's 177-4
........only 18 overs to get another 85 !!!!

| india home with 4 overs to spare, they're making things look easy and looks to me that like with englands recent test success, each time the chips are down at the moment someone stands up and produces the goods! on this form and with their new found team spirit india can become a formidable force. |

They are playing well Goat and are formidable at home , the series against SA should be tougher for them.
So 4-0 and the series is over. 3 more matches to come and apart from Indians , who actually cares?
That's not to detract from India's fine showings here , just highlights that best of 7 is overkill.
Will Sri Lanka be trying? I doubt it , and maybe India won't be either! Some players will be rested and the games will have a contrived look to them - I certainly wouldn't pay to go watch them.
So much for the rankings , Sri Lanka were 2nd , India nowhere and it's been a total annihilation.
Now if these two played a 5 test series it wouldn't be so boring........
