The Challenger Trophy will be taking place soon as usual maybe after the Champions Tophy .It will again have 3 teams : india A ,India B and India Seniors .One senior member will captain eachof the 3 teams .Last yearit was this Challenger which found Sreesanth and Raina .While Laxman had a great Challenger last year he was not selected for the ODI's .Laxman willbe up again this time and there will be one senior among all the new faces who will tryinh to get back and i need not mention his name .He did not play last time becuase of a tennis elbow .He is hopeful he will be getting back and said he knows he needs to score consistently for that .

I am looking forward to it this time. Last time was a total mess. India A deserved to come to the final and India Senior deserved to lose the final. Yuvraj and Rao were clearly out much earlier before the both made 99 and 98 respectively.

India Seniors should not have Tendulkar, and Dravid, or else it will be unfair.

Laxman derserved a place in the ODI team after those great performances, but unfortunately, he became the unluckiest Indian batsman roaming around.

Yeah. More or less, but I don't think Dravid, Sachin, and all those experienced players should play.

The good news is that Ganguy will be playing fot the Green team, and Zaheer Khan for the Red team.

Here are the squads:

India Blue - Rahul Dravid (capt), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Dinesh Mongia, Wasim Jaffer, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar, Munaf Patel, Rudra Pratap Singh, Ravindra Jadeja
Coach - Ian Frazer

India Red - Venugopal Rao (capt), Gautham Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, S Badrinath, Rohit Sharma, Tejinder Pal Singh, Dinesh Karthik (wk), VRV Singh, Sreesanth, Ramesh Powar, Zaheer Khan, Murali Kartik, C Raghu
Coach - Robin Singh

India Green - Mohammad Kaif (capt), Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Hemang Badani, Suresh Raina, Tanmay Srivastav, Piyush Chawla, Parthiv Patel, Ashish Nehra, L Balaji, Praveen Kumar, Reetinder Sodhi, Saurasish Lahiri
Coach - Lalchand Rajput

It has been a while since I have seen the name of Robin Singh anywhere. It's nice to see it again. Was a good player after all. Better allroundet than Pathan.

It was last time that the Seniors won for the first time in the history of Challenger Trophy ,so that is very interesting considering the fact that they always have the strongest squads .Its wither been India A or India B .As Dravid Fan wrote the teams this time are India Blue ,Green and Red .I am sorry I did not notice your post DF .

The senior team will win by miles looking at the teams although I'm looking to see how Kaif, Sreesanth, Ganguly, Laxman and Chawla will handle them. I will watch every match without a doubt.

There is one unfair thing in it though. Dravid and Tendulkar must not play. They make the team too strong and it's unfair.

You are right DF ,Sachin will miss the first match but i think since the Champions Trophy is ahead therefore Dravid will play and Sach's will play coz he needs match practise .

I thought it starts after the Champions Trophy.

Many people are now copying you making West indies Domestic Cricket and Australian Domestic Cricket. Good job. Even I thought of making this a long time ago, but then I realised that I wasn't a very big fan of Domestic Cricket then.

More drama as the Challenger gets on the way .Mohammad Kaif captain of India Green is currently unfit so Sachin is likely to be shifted there .Wont it be great if Sachin and Ganguly open after so many years .We had seen them last time when Sachin scored his historic 36th Test match ton .Lets hope it does happen ,you all may feel sorry for Kaif but I am certainly excited .The matches arent being telecasted .A match between india Red and India Blue are on .

SOme stats on Challenger Trophy :

  1. The tournament started in 1994-1995
  2. Highest score by a batsman is 142(106) by Ganguly
  3. Rahul Dravid has the most number of runs and Anil Kumble has the most number of wickets in the tournament with 1061 and 31 respectively .
  4. VVS Laxman has played the most matches in this tournament(23)
  5. I forgot the best bowling figures

DO OR DIE SITUATION

Sourav Ganguly will play his first match today against India Blue .From the morning he has been batting for long and has also spent quite a lot of time fielding .According to the sources this is his last oppurtunity to make a comeback. If he makes some runs he still has a chance otherwise its over .

First match lost by senior indian team(blue), so the tournament stays to its tipping that all underdogs have a great chance to make it, Two player that stand out from the match, Gambhir 110 and Zaheer, 10 overs for 44 and two wickets definately better than pathan and munaf in the same match, sreesanth remained expensive, VRV also bowled excellently.

Next match do or die for ganguly, interestingly palying under Kaif, would have loved to see him play under Yuvi!

so far so good!

The second game has been amazing. India balzed off with Tendulkar scoring 139 of just 100 balls. 4 sixes and 20 fours. Dravid made 62 of 63 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. Told you he can hit sixes too. Dhoni raced to 79 of 54 balls with 4 sixes and Pathan made 54 coming in a no.3 spot. India Blue ended up making 381. The good news is that Dravid has stopped opening.

Meanwhile India Green collapsed for a total of 115 with Harbhajan taking 4/10. Parthiv Patel top scored with 43 and Ganguly made 24. Badani pitched in with 20 otherwise all others with scores below 10. First time I have seen India smash so much after a while and also give an allround performance.

I have to unfortunately say that Ganguly is out once and for all although it's unfair to give him just one come back match. The chice was between Ganguly and Badani, but it looks like both are not coming back.

do you think Ganguly will get another chance guys? 24, i think he should, with over a ton of pressure on him, him getting 24 is liek him scoring a century! Sehwag has been failing miserably as of late, so why shouldnt Ganguly be able to coem back to the squad.

I agree. It is just something happening with Kiran More in the backstage. I wonder what it was, or else why would he have given Ganguly and Zaheer one more chance just before Vengsarkar came to replace him. Something fishy.

India green collapsed before 115, in that Ganguly scored 24 runs, according to me that was good inning by him, because he's been out of ODI cricket for months and months. He deserve few more chances.

Brief scores ,I couldn't see the Greens batting but Dada was the most economical bowler for the greens giving just 23 in his 5 vers .Sachin showed while facing him that :"Dada i still have respect for you" .

India Blue :

  1. T Srivastava 0(3)
  2. S Tendulkar 139(100)
  3. I Pathan 58(-)
  4. R Dravid 62(63)
  5. MS Dhoni 77*(59)
  6. Y SIngh 19(16)
  7. D Mongia 1(2)
  8. A Agarkar 7(6)

Extras : 10 ,Total : 381/6 in 50 overs .

India Green(brief scores) : S Ganguly 24(30) ,Parthiv Patel 43 ,H SIngh : 4/10

Total : 113 all out .

MOM : S Tendulkar .

Did you all see the 2nd delivery of the last over ?Dhoni swung his bat so hard that the bat slipped and landed behind the square leg umpires position .

Ganguly looked good in his 24 although his favourite cut shot brought about his dismissal .Badana i dont think has any chances of making it back .Sourav can make it if he makes atleast a 100+ in the next game .TOday is India Red vs India Green i tink .Good luck DADA .

well for one I actually saw the match specially to see how Ganguly performs, he was totally out of sorts, infact he got out in the 8/9th over and he was totally defending, though he had to face a lot of munaf patel who actually bowled excellently, but Ganguly never dominated and got out to a half hearted shot. raina and Kaif were poor too, so were all the bowlers from the green team. Ganguly has a last chance today to impress otherwise its bye bye for him. Two innings will be the maximum for him to do something so I hope he gets a few in the next one against Zaheer, VRV and nehra hardly an easy attack! Balajee was very mediocre adding that to tendolkar's onslought probably shut the door for him atleast for now!

Why Sehwag not played, probably a he has a secure place in the team and a match or two doesnt matter, but it would be a loss to Gambhir if he scores today also and doesnt get selected, will kill the idea of merit definately!

so far so good!

Well i saw glimpses of Ganguly's batting .Gambhir should get a recall if he does well today .I would want India green to win because they looked out of sorts yesterday on a batting paradise .
